My SO was born and raised in Nola, went to school and worked for a time in NY, and traveled extensively in Europe, but has never set foot in the state of Texas.
I've never been to Texas and grew up in NOLA. With the exception of Vegas I tend to never travel west. It just happens that vacations and all work travel is on the eastern half of the US for me.

I have some older relatives that haven't ever left the state, and some that haven't left in 60+ years. They have everything they'd ever want here, so why go somewhere else?
And no, they'd never consider going to Shreveport. That's too far away. Going to Mandeville would probably be the extent of it (from da parish)

... shop teacher at Baker HS for several years and every year he would take his class to some woodwork thing in New Orleans, every year.. And that would be the furthest most of his students have been away from home. He told me one time, they were coming back through Donaldsonville and when they were crossing the Sunshine Bridge, one of his students asked him "What river is that?"
I read an article in the Advocate years ago where a BR-area elementary school teacher said that when she discussed the Mississippi River in class, there were always a few kids who said they had never seen it. They just lived on their block and rode a bus to school.

I dated a girl from LSU and she was gonna fly and meet me during winter break. No one in her family ever flew anywhere before so they took a 3 car caravan to the airport to check the place out.

Two thoughts:
1. Ignatius J. Reilly in the Greyhound bus.
2. States I have not been to: North Dakota, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii. Been to or through all the rest. Life goal is to have all 50 in my bucket.
