I had shingles when I was 14. It was on my back and stomach and very painful. After the prescriptions kicked in and I took some Epsom salt baths it got better. Haven't had them since.

Had them when I was 17. On my back as well. Painful no doubt. Hardest part was adjusting to sleeping.

I actually had them under my skin. Felt like the worst sun burn ever. Was only on the left side of my torso. In fact, I had strep and then a few days later shingles showed up and that trigger Bell's palsy.

Get on anti vitals now I have had them twice. You do not need to be quarrentined unless you work with people with compromised immune systems. The first 48 hrs were worst and I was diagnosed pretty quick too so I was lucky.

I did and it fricking sucked. Worst pain I've ever been in. However, I didn't realize I had any issues until it got bad. Mine started in my armpit so I initially though I was just having a bad reaction to changing deodorants. By the time it has begun spreading to my back and chest it was super painful and I realized it was something much worse.

I'm sure if I had gone to the doctor early enough the pain would have been nowhere near as bad b/c the pills he gave me cleared it up in about a week and a half. That initial week was pretty awful though. I was on three pain killers a day just to be able to move around. Even the air from the AC vents hitting my skin was uncomfortable.

Got them at 32. Left upper face. The only scar is in my eyebrow. Funny thing is I never knew I had chicken pox as a child. I have 1 pox scar on my back that I didn't even know about until my wife pointed it out and if it weren't for shingles I'd still swear she was wrong lol. Pain was bad and I have a really high pain threshold. There's 3 times in my life I can say I was actually in pain. Shingles, kidney stones and gallbladder.

My grandpa had them a few years ago...he is about 85. I made him show me his back and it looked like a truck ran him over and left tire marks.

I got it on my back. The doctor looked at it and (before telling me what it was) said "Holy shite!" I'd heard all the stories about how painful it is, but I must have had a mild case of it. He gave me some anti-inflammatory for it; don't remember what it was.

I had it in June (age 30). It was on my chest, armpit area and back. Before the rash appeared it felt like I was sunburned, but nothing too uncomfortable. The rash appeared while I was in the UK. Fortunately, my father in law carries Valtrex for cold sores, so I started taking that immediately. That stopped the rash from spreading. It really wasn't too bad. The sooner you get on medication, the better. I read all of these horror stories of how painful it was, so I was dreading the flight back, but the pain really wasn't too bad. Apparently, the younger you are the less painful it is.

Same here. I caught mine within a day and got on Valtrex and prednisone immediately. Maybe that's why I never got much pain. Then again, I had no early symptoms other than the actual rash

Had an area on my chest and back.

I got them around 25. I had them on the backside of my waistline. They hurt like hell. Nothing cooler than having to go pick up herpes medicine

I got them about 7 or 8 years ago around my right eye and forehead. Went to eye doctor, said they occur along one nerve branch. That's why it only affected one side of my face. Said if it showed up on the other side too then I had AIDS . . . didn't spread to other side.

Felt and looked like my face had been burned. Would sit in a dark room to help with the pain.

I wonder how many cases of shingles popped up after the flood. You are stressed beyond your normal limits....giving the dormant virus already in your body if you have had chickenpox the perfect time to come out of hiding.

Glad it went away quickly.

I had shingles on my leg my last semester of nursing school. Likely due to stress. I originally thought it was just an allergic reaction to soap. Don't remember it ever hurting.....just itching like crazy.

I had no insurance then. Remember the doctor helping me out by giving me like a week or two worth of valtrex samples. Only problem was each pill came in a brightly colored box with "valtrex" on it in large letters. Imagine walking to your car with an armful of valtrex boxes? Wanted to yell out to everyone that saw me "it's not herpes, I have shingles!!!"

Got them about a year ago. I was 40 at the time. Buy milk of magnesia, yes milk of magnesia, and put it in the fridge. After it gets cold dab it on with cotton balls. Doesn't take long to dry and really takes most of the bite out of the itching and burning sensation that makes it feel like someone is putting cigarettes out on your back. The pharmacist recommended it and it really helped. Cold shower helps too. Nothing else did jack squat to check it up.

Not me but my mom had em in her mid 30s and one of my son's did in his early 30s.

A friend had them in his early 40s and, holy shite, his was like a foot tall swath of rough scabby looking skin wrapped around his entire torso betweeen his waist and sternum/shoulder blades. It took a month for his to subside and they were as painful as all getout!
