I got them at age 20 around my mid section. I didn't think they were bad honestly.

So who here has had shingles before and how much did it suck?
I get shingles in the form of cold sores around my mouth every couple of months. It's really weird.

I got it when I was 21. Ridiculous.
It sucked but it didn't last too long for me, luckily. Got script, put the prescribed ointment on it, rested as much as possible. I got it from my spine to belly button. Nowhere else.

I got it when I was 25 or so. Painful as frick, all the way around the left side of my ribs and on my face.

Got them in my early 30s. Pretty bad case. Painful as hell. Took a year before the back pain finally went away for good.

somehow I managed to get fricking shingles at age 26.
If you get it early it tends to dog you your whole life. With the worst starting around age 50.

Flare ups will come much more often after the first one. I got my first around my stomach at 39.
Comes every other year or so...I don't bother with Valtrex anymore...doesn't make it go any faster TBH.

You're right. It flared up again during my first pregnancy.
ETA: I've learned that I have to be extremely careful with how I handle stress. I can take on infinite amounts of stress mentally, but my body starts breaking down after so long. If only my body could be as tough as my mind.

What did the Dr. say/dermatologist, is the Dr. for this? Time-frame for this?

Start smoking weed. It's a potent anti-inflammatory for every organ system in your body. It will drastically if not completely stop it from flaring up. Or help you manage the symptoms when you do.

A week after the flood I had a bad rash that broke out on my right shoulder. Itched like crazy. I went to my doctor and was told it was shingles. She said times of extreme stress can make it appear. Was prescribed a cream to put it on it. Only time it was painful was if something rubbed it, like sleeping and my shirt rubbed it. I was lucky, after a week I was better. I did have to work from home that week because until they crust over you are still contagious.

Dr said basically until it crusts over it is still contagious, in my case she said it should be within a week but sometimes it takes 2-4 weeks. I'm also staying away from work because I work with a pregnant woman who has also had chicken pox before, double whammy

Got Shingles at 29. shite was painful. I used to laugh at the commercials but when it happened it was terrible. Taking Valtrex as early as possible helps a lot. I was down for a week or so. The only way I could sleep was pain meds.

There is a vaccine, recommended for everyone sixty and over. I got the vaccine in my early fifties with a prescription after my mom lost the use of an eye to ocular shingles. Occasionally shingles is very serious.
