If so, what's your career? Did it take awhile to figure out what you wanted to do?

Quick question if you don't mind chiming in
How hard is it/is it possible, to work at a plant and move up the management ladder?
For example, say I work Big company A's lng plant in an engineering role. Could I move up to management/corporate from working at the plant or would I be at that plant forever?

Not me, but my son did kind of. He has some college but never found a major/liked it.
He now runs an upscale gun range is does pretty well. Plus he has every firearms and equipment rep offering him free shite on a nearly daily basis.

I didn't go to college and seem to be doing pretty well. I'm 34, work for a big corporation and make a decent living. I'm in sales and have good benefits, 401k, stock earning potential, car package, cell phone, 3 weeks of vacation and a week of sick. I've been with the same company for 13 years and started when I was 20.
What do you consider successful? From 20 to 32 I was a top performer in the positions I was in and moved into a drifferent role last June and tripled my salary. I was just as successful in my previous roles making 3 time less money but was still in the top 5 to 10% in performance.

I went but didn't graduate. Got into maintenance at US Steel, took a management position at another company and I'm alright. I would love to make more, but there isn't a whole lot of opportunities that a degree would unlock at this point in my life. I feel like some kids go to school because they have too, but aren't interested. These guys could make comparable money as a welder, pipe fitter or millwright with no student loan debt.

I have a friend who is a VP of sales for a radio station group in a large market. Does VERY well for himself. Didn't get his degree until he hit a ceiling but he was making well into 6 figures at that point. BUT he is very personable and has a way of bringing out the best in his sales staff. Way back when someone took a chance on him because of his long sales experience but no degree.

Get on with a union as a boilermaker. Work 6 months of the year, and chill the rest. Profit.

This was me. I didn't give a shite in college and got a random degree. Worked for a few years and realized I wasn't going anywhere without a different degree or a masters. Ended up going to grad school for something I really enjoy, so for that I'm grateful for the degree.
