I just had the new mail girl stop by my office to ask who I was sending an inner-office envelope to because she had no idea how to read the name I had clearly written on it. How can an adult function without being able to write or even read cursive?!?

They don't teach it in a lot schools anymore, so that may help you figure out why she didn't know what you wrote....

They don't teach it anymore. How old is this girl? There are a couple of people I know in their early 20's that cannot write in cursive, and their signature looks like a five year old's handwriting. It's a shame.

It isn't taught in schools anymore. I had to reteach myself how to write it, however I can still read it.

It's probably pretty easy. Not much is written in cursive anymore.

Depends on the handwriting. A lot of people use cursive as an excuse to write in shorthanded chicken scratch.

She’s 21. Nice girl. Seems relatively intelligent, goes to school at night. But can’t read a lick of cursive.

I don't know why they still teach it to be honest with you.

My grandmother taught me cursive in about 30 mins one afternoon. It's really not that hard. For the most part, most cursive letters look like the print version but strung together. If she can use her brain for half a second, she could probably figure it out.

I’m very particular about making sure I write neatly and clearly.

which is probably why it had more to do with Darth's handwriting and less her ability to read

if you aren't taught something I don't see why you'd be upset that someone doesn't know it. Kids don't learn cursive these days, nor should they.

maybe you had sloppy handwriting? I mean cursive is just the regular letters with loops on em with a couple exceptions. Look at this shitty graphic from some mom-blog:

If an adult can't read that they have issues reading in general.

Sounds about right. The ones I know are intelligent professionals, but like you say can't write it or read it worth a damn.

How do they have an actual signature they can use on things like contracts, personal checks, or the myriad of other official documents you have to sign in both professional and personal life?
