Mary Lee but Thee Heavenly is a close second.

An honorable mention hot take is Circle K

Put them in the microwave for 10-15 seconds and they crush

Haven't had a donut since I retired 3 years ago. People used to bring them to work.

The sort of new donut shop on Sherwood Forest - donuts and burgers I think it’s called - is very good

Good Morning Donut a close second

Mary Lee sucks, like that’s what you get when all the other donut shops are sold out and closed for the day and only Mary Lee has donuts - because they suck

And I’m not sure why liking donuts is equated with being fat - I can put away 6 donuts easily and my bmi is in the normal range.

Years ago, the best in BTR, Tony’s on Plank Rd. Tony is an Anselmo. Jay’s Donuts was the second best. Jay Lindsey was the owner, he also made a great King Cake.

Their sausage biscuits are the best I’ve ever had and it’s not even close. Remind me of the old Jimmy Dean ones. But on a fresh, fluffy biscuit.

I’ve gone over there just to get a few sausage biscuits for our us to cure the brew flu.

AND BBQ. Their barbecue was actually amazing, way better than pretty much any place left in business in BR. Not to hijack the thread but I’m really missing them and GD BBQ

For glazed donuts, it's hard to beat Mary Lee Donuts, but I do think Southern Maid tops them barely.

Shipley in Bunkie was different from the regular chain. The old man that made the donuts was a damn wizard.

As far as BR goes, Jay's was the best.

Currently, the best I've found is Donut Palace in Gonzales. Their cream cheese filled are amazing.

Tato Nut in Ocean Springs also deserves mention.

That would be Southern Maid in Shreveport-Bossier.

Superior Steakhouse in Shreveport uses left over Southern Maid donuts for their bread pudding.

My dad used to occasionally bring these home on his way back from working nights at the plant, and we'd wake up so AMPED to see them on the table.

I've had very few BR donuts, and probably haven't had one in general in 5 years, but Mary Lee fresh and hot felt really hard to beat. I loved how light and airy they were.
