I had a conversation with a guy who had one and his attorney was able to get him out of it with help of the Covid pandemic somehow.

I was approached on the street in a resort town one time and basically had to stop being nice about not being interested and basically insult the guy to get him off my back.

So who has one? Why? You go back to the same vacation spot and will for the rest of your life? I figured Air BnB would have destroyed that business model but it hasn’t.

Anyone glad they did it?

My dad.

Who knows he is an idiot.

They can book anything in the "timeshare system" as well as their "home resort" near Disney.

We do use guest weeks because it is cheap but he absolutely does not save any money with what he pays yearly. It is not a good value at all.

I don’t have a time share and never would. Seems like a scam and the stories are abundant of regret.

And yet, isn’t the above statement also true about owning your own camp, beach condo, or vacation home??

I like the smokies and all but how many times can you go to Gatlinburg?

If I am going to buy a place there it’s going to be a cabin 1hour or so away from the bullshite.

timeshares are a scam and there is absolutely zero advantage to purchasing one, I will however, listen to their spiel if the goodies are nice, went to Cabo last fall and sat in on one, free awesome breakfast buffet, open bar, took about two hours, resulted in about $600-700 worth of excursions, snorkeling, four wheeling on the beach, booze cruise, etc.

Except on those you can actually cash flow on by renting it out when you aren’t using it yourself. Plus build equity over time as rental income pays the mortgage down and the property value appreciates. And you can sell much easier if and when you want out.

But you have equity in those if you own them and would get at least something if you bail out. And you can shift to vacation rental income on them as well.

It’s not worth my time. I was in the Bahamas the past week and had some guy come up and start talking to my wife about checking out this new resort. Then he went on to talk about the free breakfast and all the goodies they would offer if we went to the breakfast. frick that shite I’m not sitting in to listen to someone bore me for a couple hours for a few hundred dollars worth of free shite .

My cousin has one in Cancun. They swap out their ts to other people who have ts in other areas. They have gone to Hawaii, Acapulco, Bermuda, etc.

Went to the timeshare meeting in NYC as they promised a full breakfast for the kids. Got there and it was continental. Kids don’t do lox. So we left. The sales guy in the lobby had the guts to accost me as to why I wasn’t in the session where I very loudly proceeded to call him a liar and dress him down since my kids were now without breakfast and it was all his fault. Wifey was embarrassed but not nearly as much as the sales guy who was now publicly labeled a liar.

My sister and her husband travel a lot now they are retired. They have a time share that is available in so many places in the US. They pick a spot from a huge list of participating locations and timeshare owners. My siblings and I spent a week hiking in North Carolina and stayed in her timeshare. The next year we stayed in SC. Sometimes she goes out west or up north. They have 2 weeks to spend in a timeshare each year. It works for them.

BTW, I did stop in to a presentation once for a timeshare in Florida. Those people were like mosquitoes in a frenzy. I wouldn’t sign anything and bailed out in 30 mins. I could not stand anymore of it just to get a free microwave. LOL

My now deceased grandparents had DOZENS. Before they passed, they sent a list, asking the family which ones we wanted. I passed.

The only time I hear of timeshares is during commercials for programs to help one get out of them. With all the bad publicity, I am shocked these even exist anymore.
