Who drinks a lot of alcohol?

Some weeknights, I might not drink a drop. Some weeknights I’ll drink if the day has been rough and I feel like I need to relax.
I normally drink most weekends.
Do I have a problem? Maybe?
But I’m a shy person at heart. A couple beers and I’m a social butterfly. It’s made me friends I’d never have had I not had some courage.
I’m not saying alcohol is good. I have a grandfather that was a complete dirtbag because he loved his whiskey. He’s no longer with us.
Would my life be better if I quit? Maybe? But I enjoy my time drinking beer with buddies at the camp, crawfish boils, football parties..
My point is that until it becomes a problem, I’ll keep drinking beer.
It’s not right for everyone but it works for me.
I feel like there’s not enough threads about people saying it’s ok to drink some beer and live a good life..

I'm in the alcoholic reserves.

I get blackout drunk about one weekend a month, and two weeks a year.

Checking in. I mostly just drink beer though. Nothing wrong with it if it’s kept in check. Once you start making poor decisions and hurting relationships because of it then it’s a problem.

There was a thread very recently that I posted in, if you want to read it from my post history, that essentially made me rethink my own alcohol consumption.

As long as you’re not negatively affecting aspects of your life, work/relationships/socially, I don’t think anyone would say alcohol prevents living a good life if consumed in moderation. Drinking too much and too often is one hell of a risk to shorten your life, even if it doesn’t affect other aspects of your life.

I’m in my young 30s, and someone said that if you think two fifths in a week isn’t too much, it’s time to rethink. While I don’t drink that much, I certainly didn’t think that as far too much alcohol if life is otherwise going well with no negative results from the consumption.

Alcohol is not bad in moderation, but it’s one hell of a slippery slope, especially when friend/peer groups are originated in alcohol consumption.

I’m a social drinker. I haven’t had a drink of alcohol in 3 weeks. Not sure when my next one will be.

If you can be honest with yourself, and truthfully say that it doesn’t cause one single problem in your life….then I see no reason to stop what you are doing.

Honestly, a lot of the most memorable times of my life were when I was shite-faced drunk. I am past all of that now, but don’t regret it at all.

It's been an albatross all my adult life. I went three or so years without it from 20-22 but been off the wagon for the past year and a half. Life is hard to deal with in 20/20 vision. It's a reliable crutch for me.

I am down from a fifth a night guy 10 years ago to 4 or 5 beers a night. I just need to get rid of the shite altogether.

There was a time that I was knocking down a handlebar of 94-proof Evan Williams 1783 every 4 days. In a (successful) attempt to lose some weight, I just quit. Don't even have any in the house. Feels great, but I still get plowed every night if we're on vacation at an all-inclusive.

It wasn't causing any problems other than the expense and weight gain though.

I've often said, my liver is my super power. Due to genetics, I've been on statins for about 30 years. I drink about 3 liter of vodka a week. I never have a hangover, I am up at 6am every morning. My liver enzymes are tested every 6 months and are always in the normal range.

I fit the definition of an alcoholic, but I can easily go without it for long periods of time. I don't crave it, just a habit I formed from being bored, I guess.

I don’t drink anymore. Was screwing my life in every way. But I’ll never judge what others choose to do. If you enjoy it, go for it.

It’s rare for someone to admit they’re a serious alcoholic. Good on you man. First step to putting it away.

If you're drinking for a reason that you can't identify other than, "you like it," you have a problem. But it usually isn't the booze, it's what causes you to want the booze. (insert female emoji here)

I notice you didn't mention the wife/girlfriend at all, or your family, which are the most likely sources for you wanting escape. If you don't want to be in a relationship, get the F out. Don't drink to cover it up, especially if you're not already married.

Different people can handle different levels of consumption. Wait until you get old enough to learn that the 40 year old women are taking their kids to the mall with a 30oz cup full of wine, and you won't seem as crazy as you think you are.
