I get turned up probably once on weekends cooking big meals, but I don't go out to bars and get wasted. I just love to have some good bourbon, scotch, or a martini while listening to music and cooking.

Have mostly stopped drinking on weeknights just because I prioritize good sleep before a work day.

Hangovers are getting brutal though.

Social drinker. I'll have drinks if we go to dinner. If I have to go to an event for my wifes work I'm definitely having a couple before. Maybe an edible as well. Although I've blacked out at her work Christmas party a few times. That's usually with mixed drinks and not eating. If I'm drinking straight bourbon I can usually manage it better. Like OP I can go weeks without drinking. Although if we go out on the lash, on vacation or something, I'm not one that can drink back to back days. I need a day off during vacation between drinking.

Before kids, up until my late 20s, I was having some sort of alcohol every night and getting shithoused at least twice a week, usually 3 times.

Family tree on Father's side full of functioning alcoholics.

I will do two week checks every now and then when I start hitting hard (2 a night). No shakes. No urges/withdrawals, so all good.

Greatly scaled back at beginning of year for weight loss reasons (weekends only, no more than 2).

Depends on how you look at it. I drink vodka and water together every night. I measure my drinks and I have a limit as to how much I drink.

But if you compare me to my mother I drink a lot.

Compared to my father I don’t much at all.

Actually, drinkers are more likely to be soys than non drinkers based on the science.

I drank my entire life up until 3.5 years ago. It's been the best decision I've ever made. Just trying to help people.

Sad when drinking defines what is a "real man."

Areas where I see it as a problem

Daily drinking- it can be very taxing on the liver.
Inability to quit once you start- that generally indicates a problem

Violent behavior after drinking- obvious issues

Otherwise, I know plenty of people that drink occasionally with no obvious issues
