Japanese and it ain’t even close

Wake Island killing us troops that surrendered one by one by beheading.

Shooting British nurses/nunes/wounded in hospitals in South east Asia

A British Red Cross ship was sunk off the coast and the jap soldiers on shore were killing them as the swam ashore

The millions of Chinese civilians murdered and there brutal occupation.

Their treatment of Koreans/sex slaves

In general Japanese culture/society treated those who surrender as less then human. They believed u fought to the death. In Okinawa the civilians jumped off cliffs rather then surrender to marines.

Germany it was the SS and party elites that did the atrocities. In Japan it was everyone.

Read the wiki article in the Japanese atrocities:

Russians and Germans killed POWs but not in the numbers the Japanese did and it wasn’t by gunfire like the Russians and Germans typically. It was by sword or bayonet.

More than that, he was directly responsible for saving about 200,000 people. Fascinating story and he's still considered a hero in China. LINK

Japanese.

Both my Dad and an uncle were POW’s during WW2. My Dad in Europe, my uncle in Burma. My Dad would never talk about the experience but led a normal life afterwards in my view. My uncle lived out his days in an asylum.

Japanese.

The Pacific Theater was a meat-grinder. And while the Germans engaged in atrocities against the Jews, actual combat in the Pacific had more of a savage racial component to it.

The Germans killed 2.8 million soviet POWs and between 10 and 20 million Slavs in the east. The Germans and later the Soviets also where guilty of mass rape. The Japanese killed a similar number of Chinese civilians. The Soviets killed millions of German civilians so all three nations where terrible.

When it comes to who treated Americans worse than it was the Japanese.

It’s not really a question. As horrible as the Nazis were, the Japanese disturbed them and they were pretty open about the Japanese disturbing them. Auschwitz was horrible, but Unit 731 was as if everyone at Auschwitz was Mengele. Numerous guards in Auschwitz went out of their way to save Jews and other targets from themselves. Often a 15 year old would show up, the officer would say he was 17 and needed work, the Jewish teen would interrupt him and say he was 15, and the guard would look them firm in the eye and tell them they were 17. Only years later would hundreds of them realize that these officers saved their lives and risked their own for it. 15 meant the gas chambers, 17 meant the work camps.

You didn’t have anyone in Unit 731 like that. It was just all around worse.

Germany got the attention but Japan was sickening.

Again, the Nazis were openly reviled by the brutality of the Japanese. They were largely disturbed to be in their presence. The Rape of Nanking had all the West against the Japanese.

A literal Nazi thought the Japanese were too brutal.

Even when the Japanese visited Berlin on occasion, the Nazi officers were still disturbed by them. Heydrich was the exception rather than the rule. All the Japanese officers were as horrible as Heydrich though.

Hitler also planned on erasing the cities of Moscow and Leningrad but luckily the Germans failed to take either city but not before a million people starved to death in Leningrad..

People are all saying Japanese and that’s definitely a legit answer and probably my choice but let’s not discount the Germans who did a lot of evil things too. Even the rank and file which people so often want to ignore.

Guy Sajer talked about how there would be people who’d tie up prisoners and drop live grenades into the pockets of one of them.

Here’s the difference: there are Nazis that really stand out. There are tons of Japanese officers that really don’t. Even the ones who did the competition to kill 100 people with a sword were pretty par for the course. You don’t see a Heydrich or Goeth who are clearly worse than the rest of their men.

From a pure savagery standpoint, the Japanese were unsurpassed. The Germans were not much better. And once they reached Polish and German soil, the Russians were not much better.

The main difference in the Russians from the Japs and a Germans is while later practiced primarily Wholesale slaughter, the Russian soldier was far more interested in rape, especially once they reached Germany. Didn’t matter if she was 8 years old or 80 years old, if she was German, chances are she was going to get raped, probably repeatedly. It’s estimated Russian soldiers raped over 2 million, possibly far more, in the closing months of the war. I read one account where a group of Red Army soldiers made and old man hold a kerosene lamp up so they could see the faces of his elderly wife, middle aged daughter, and teenage granddaughter as each was raped repeatedly by the soldiers. In another account a German mother who was already hemorrhaging from hours of repeatedly being raped offered to let the soldiers use her mouth to keep the soldiers from turning on her young daughter (I think she was like 10 or 11). The soldiers both forced the German mother to perform oral on them and still raped the little girl.
