where in Louisiana would be natural bear habitat that it would make it to Baton Rouge?
My guess is he was probably living around the Comite River. There are plenty of woods along that river north of Greenwell Springs all the way to Hooper Road.

Dumb question...where in Louisiana would be natural bear habitat that it would make it to Baton Rouge? The Atchafalaya area?
Do they come across the new bridge or old bridge? Is it BR traffic dependent?

Mississippi has bears in the southwest part of the state. It probably wandered down from there.

apture and transport to Siegen and I-10 chaos ensues.
The bear will be calling from a pay phone to bring him back to the woods. The woods have rules. Siegen has no rules.

poor thing will get hit by a speeding Charger or Altima before he gets caught.

proof La needs more than 10 bear tags
I laughed when they said 10 tags. I think those are all just in parishes along the Mississippi too. The amount of encounters in union parish, west Carroll, and morehouse is unreal.

now it's showing up in the Broadmoor/Sherwood area
It's in that bear's best interest to get himself caught and relocated.

The state mammal of Louisiana is the Louisiana Black Bear. There used to be so many black bears in the state that it had it's own recognized subspecies.

They've come back in big numbers since they outlawed hunting them years ago. I think they can be hunted again, but in very small numbers.
We had some pics of one in our neighborhood 4-5 years ago posted on Nextdoor. We aren't too terribly far from where they caught this one. I saw one up in Pride (15-20 miles north of BR) on my grandparent's land years ago.

bear traipsing around the Baton Rouge area
A traipsing black bear is harmless. But when they start slinking, watch out!

Workers with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries say the bear was captured using a tranquilizer. It will be taken to a medical facility to be checked out before eventually being released back into a wooded area in the central part of the state, the workers said.

Then at the same time, there was the 9 foot gator on Mollylea in Broadmoor. Saw it on channel 9. That’s scarier than the bear
