Movie was good. Frank Hamer was a tough MF.
Only thing that the movie screwed up royally was making the Sheriff of Bienville Parish a Cajun with a Cajun accent.
There ain't a Cajun within 100 miles of Bienville Parish.

Been there. Told all about it in a thread when this movie was first announced. Been there with a buddy (played linebacker at Wofford in the 80s) and a couple of metal detectors.
We found some stuff.
Lots of people had been there before us. I was using a Garrett Master Hunter V and he was using a Whites ... can't remember what model but we had been hitting privies and battlegrounds and escape routes and old home sites for years before we ever hit the ambush site.
Have also seen the car up close.
My grandfather was in Texas when all of it went down. Texas and Memphis ... Memphis where Machine Gun Kelly was captured.
Got a great pic of my grandfather in Chicago the day he bought his 1934C 1911 .... in his gangsta suit.
He caught a train back to Fort Bliss the next day ... My mother was born the same week.
Thus is the 1911 (and some of the original ammo) he passed down to me.
This is the day he bought it in Chicago

On an aside, I have eaten at the Gibsland Cafe about a half dozen times. That is some good food.

I read an article that the death scene on the movie was filmed at the exact location where the ambush occurred.

I’m skeptical that the vehicle in Vegas is the real one...

Wasn't in Vegas, Primm NV close to CA state line.

BFE?
The ambush site is about 10 minutes off of I-20.
And it’s on a pretty nice stretch of Highway by La standards.

I actually drove through the ambush site the day before they started filming the ambush.
Had no idea what I was driving through. They were lining the road with saplings and spreading dirt on top of the highway.
Didn’t know what was up till I got through there and googled. That was the first I’d heard of the movie.
