What is the flex here? Multiple members of my family have houses there and I always wished we’d go somewhere better. Then we did and I haven’t been back in five years. I’m just curious what the appeal is because it’s always felt like a mediocre beach area.

Yeah dude me too. I’m so tired of the Hamptons every year too. Several of my family members have houses there and it’s just no meh. I know what you’re saying.

Destin proper may actually be a bit more peaceful and serene these days.

Have actually been kicking around the idea of going back to Destin, or really Sandestin, for the first time in a while.

30A in the summer is a shite show.

I do enjoy it around Thanksgiving though.

Taking a pic of someone's 30A sticker is magnitudes worse than the Karen's 30A sticker

I picture OTers sitting in their vehicle seeing a 30A sticker and thinking that it's a great idea to take a picture of it to post on the OT to get some kind of internet credibility. How sad must that life be.

I admit it's pure jealousy... I can only hope to achieve the financial freedom to allow me to own a Minivan with stickers to let everyone coming and going know I vacation in such an exotic location such as the 30A.

LOL. Dude 30a’s been ruined for several years now.

just got back...frick no it aint. other than seaside its not even crowded. even the public beach access is not even one row deep.

and talent is way better there than other places.

30a is still bad arse and people that whine about the decals almost universally have never been.

i will say, it has gotten expensive AF. but better then being in a high rise condo in orange beach with 8 rows of tents along the beach.

lets see

1) best beaches along the gulf coast outside of maybe clearwater area
2) not crowded except seaside at certain times
3) most importantly...no poors so very little trash
4) the talent is much better there than other beaches on the gulf coast, hardly any land whales
5) plenty of great restaurants to eat at
6) can drive the golf cart everywhere
7) plenty of great places to shop at
8) plenty of things outside the beach for the kids to do

the only downside to 30a is the price and that seaside area can get crowded. other then that its pretty much picture-perfect beach town. Beautiful sand and water, people biking and doing other fitness activities everywhere, great local shops and places to eat.

how is it a "mediocre beach area" in any shape or form?

destin traffic is a nightmare, way worse than 30a. go to the east side of 30a away from seaside and hardly any traffic

We live there, and have for many years. I would say that 30A is not so great that the sticker is a status symbol, nor is is it as terrible as some make it out to be.

People lament the growth, but with it comes shopping, restaurants, and most importantly, much needed medical care. (severe shortage in that Dept.) It might actually be a better place to live than vacation. After living in N.O. for much of my life, I am still amazed at how easy it is here to deal with the department of motor vehicles, utility company, tax assessor, or any other entity that fights you so hard in N.O.

If it is heading to ruination, it will be because of building codes that allow de facto hotels to be built. I saw a house today with a sign in front that stated that it would accommodate 36 people. In college, that may have been fun, but that would constituted punishment for m.
