Which do you prefer? Traveling within in the US or traveling to a resort in the Caribbean?

All-inclusives aren't my thing, but I'm curious why some find a resort in Mexico preferable for their once-a-year vacation as opposed to visiting a noteworthy place in the US.

Sometimes you just wanna relax on a beach and get plastered for a week.

For beach vacations, I just stay in the US. I've been to Mexican beaches many times. Florida is easier.

If you're going to do Caribbean, gotta go southern like the VI. Everything else is overrun with Carnival cruise line trash

Well Mexico is a shithole but I’d take a week in the Caribbean over most US destinations. Negril, Turks, Antigua, St Lucia all have great spots that are perfect for a week. If you find the right resort it makes your vacation better. Don’t go to Sandals and then say you don’t like all inclusives when really you just didn’t like Sandals.

I prefer to travel within the US. Still things here I haven't explored.

To each their own, but for me, once I've seen a Caribbean resort, I've seen them all. I'm not a big drinker or eater so the all inclusive thing doesn't really appeal to me.

Why do Americans seldom travel outside north America? Specifically to Asia... the world is bigger than going to some trashy “resort” in the Caribbean.

With that being said, taveling in the US is incredibly diverse, especially in the West. If you have seen one east coast beach you’ve seen them all. So travel west if you stay in the states.

Well you didn't say the traveling has to be at a beach if you stayed in the US. so I would have to pick stay and travel in the US.

I have been to plenty of beaches in my life, although I do enjoy a good beach, for now on I think my vacations will be to travel around the US and get to see what our country has to offer. I think we tend to forget with all the crazy shite happening today in our country, how beautiful it really is coast to coast. Its a shame we treat it like a dump.

Depends on what I'm in the mood to do. Wife and I try to do 2 long trips a year: 1 trip in the fall/winter and one in the spring/summer. So one at the beach and one for skiing. Lately we've been doing both internationally but I think we'd like to do more domestically. Planning to do Colorado for skiing this winter.

I prefer traveling in the US so I can make a road trip out of it.

Amen. I’ve always wondered this and have never really gotten a good answer.

St. Barth is the place to go. Le P'Tit Morne is a reasonably priced hotel. At least it is by St. Barth standards. I left something for them to adorn their wall with at La Select.

I just got back from a week in Aruba, loved it.

Flying in general irritates me, so a five hour flight needs at least five days of vacation time to warrant it for me.

You realize you can't go to Asia or many places for 4-6 days total right?

I live in Florida so while I love the beach I have very little reason to go on vacation to the beach.

But many people that go to all inclusive are on less than a week vacations or long weekends. Leave on a Wednesday come home Sunday type of thing. If you want a nicer, no kids, relaxing vacation then I get it. Where can you get that outside of the Carribean/ Mexico?
