Atlanta....No city personifies the saying "The South Will Rise Again" more than Atlanta after being burned to the ground.

Charleston, SC. The cultural epicenter of Southern civilization and heritage.

Atlanta isn't the "most southern" city in the South but it's the biggest, most important city in the region by a fair margin. It's also near the top in almost every other category (historic significance, nationwide influence, sports, music, cuisine, etc.). You can reasonably argue is the only truly major city in the "true south" (not Miami, Texas cities, etc.).

Atlanta has ZERO impact on the South beyond the state of Georgia

Savannah is seen as a portal in time with romanticized visions of Southern grandeur. I'd choose it over ATL all day, every day.

Most state capitals aren't located in their largest city. Hell, even Washington D.C. isn't in the top-10 biggest cities in the USA.

Atlanta is so non-southern in many ways, though.

Maybe Nashville?

Maybe the Tourist Capital, but Charleston is definitely not the preeminent city of the region.

Is Atlanta located in the South?

Yes?

Then, I'd say it fits with the OP's question.

I mean, come on yall.

Then you go on to name Nashville?
