Seriously.

Agreed. When I think of "The South" I think of Georgia and Savannah in particular

East Coast bias perhaps

I don’t give a shite what the Baws say. Virginia is a southern state. Just because fantastic educational institutions and a High quality of life are found there doesn’t change it for me

Everyone that answered differently knows it.

Savannah has just enough New Orleans while still maintaining that Old South feel.

A requirement for a southern city is that a man should be able to drink a whiskey cocktail in the street, strictly to bolster his constitution on a hot day, without hassle.

Nobody has to like Atlanta, they just have to accept Atlanta.

The national treasury would be in Tupelo, Mississippi. And I'd put Hank Williams’ picture on one hundred dollar bills.

Atlanta isn't the "most southern" city in the South but it's the biggest, most important city in the region by a fair margin. It's also near the top in almost every other category (historic significance, nationwide influence, sports, music, cuisine, etc.). You can reasonably argue is the only truly major city in the "true south" (not Miami, Texas cities, etc.).
