Yea, I saw the link and bookmarked it.
I will send some money to them and Samaritans Purse today.
Thanks, everyone.

I have a good friend from my counseling cohort that's been sharing a lot of things from Western NC (he's just outside of the worst areas himself). Samaritan's Purse just established an oxygen field at Watauga Medical Center/UNC (Boone, NC) for folks needing oxygen. They've also set up another in Ashe County (which isn't getting as much pub). So they're definitely boots on the ground at this point.

Do the folks that run the Cajun navy get paid to organize a volunteer group?

Red Cross - Charity Navigator, a watchdog group that grades charities on their financial health, transparency and fundraising costs, estimated the Red Cross spends almost 90% of its “total expenses spent on the programs and services it delivers.”
Sounds pretty good to me

Here’s Cajun Navy 2016’s profile on Guidestar; they grade out at platinum. I think large organizations like Samaritan Purse and similar organizations are awesome, but I think Cajun Navy is excellent at search and rescue. The huge organizations are going to have to deal with a lot of logistics, mass shipping etc. Cajun Navy is immediate boots on the ground. Lots of room and need for both. There are other Cajun Navy organizations out there, with a few listed on Guidestar.

I will not donate to the Red Cross because hardly any of the money actually makes it to people
Stout, can you please provide facts to back up this statement?

Sure.
For years the Red Cross has stated that 91% of what they raise is "invested" in helping people. What they leave out is that not all of that 91% actually goes to helping people. Several organizations have done the research and found 70% or less actually makes it to directly helping people. They lose around 26% per year in fundraising expenses alone.
The information is out there if you search.
propublica.org has done several investigations into the RC tax documents to verify this

What a useless and pathetic thread
Figuring out which is more legit and will make the best use of donations to help NC and TN is useless and pathetic???

They both seem to generally enjoy helping people. No one is getting rich from this.

Samaritan’s Purse is a good one if you’re unsure about Cajun Navy
Just by chance I stumbled upon something from Cajun Navy online asking for any help ppl could offer and they said if you can't reach us to donate to Samaritan's Purse. So find the one that is connected and or affiliated to them and I would think that one is legit.

My cousin is a full-time Social Media Coordinator on the Social Media Team for "THE Cajun Navy" and it seems they spend a lot of resources on self promotion over optimizing what goes to the flood victims.
Does anyone else see any of the other Cajun Navy groups potentially over prioritizing self-promotion?

Thanks bigfish. We are in Jasper Fl. Serving pecan smoked chicken, black beans, and chipotle lime rice
Lots of damage here. But some people have started getting power back on.
We are a 501(c)(3) charity. Any funds donated go directly to feeding people. An average week king trip costs $22-25k. We feed 1200-1500 people a day
Any donations will be gladly accepted.
