Perkins Rowe theater opened after Tinseltown closed
Citiplace was the next one followed by O’Neal and then Mall of LA. They were the ones that killed Tinseltown

I remember my date and me being the only ones in the theater for one movie in 2006 or so. That was Tinseltown.

Tinseltown had weird distribution rights so they wouldn't always get some of the bigger movie releases, which is why they really faded once some others stepped up their theatres
I spent some money on that NFL Blitz machine in the arcade though

New Generation
In high school I worked at the McDonalds near NG. On payday I would go to the restaurant, pick up my check and deposit keeping a $20 bill. I would then head to New Generation and buy 3 albums with the $20 and have change left over. Good times.
I lament like a lot of posters have said. Baton Rouge was a great place to grow up in the '70's and '80's. Kind of a large, small town. I hate that I will never see that again.

"Bring back the Great River Road Run."
I ran in the fist Great River Road Run. 10K Started outside the LSU track Bernie Moore Stadium on Nicholson, headed downtown, back on the levee at some point, then finished in the track stadium.
Somewhere I have a copy of the multi-page insert that was in the Advocate with stories and results. I finished in the 40-60 position. The time of the guy listed in front of me was mine. He ran past me after the finish line and took the tongue depressor with a number on it with the finish position.
The racers ended up lined up around the track which messed up a lot of finish times.
Went for a warm down run with the winner and one of his friends afterwards and their jog was a sprint form me.
The week before I ran the Cajun 10 miler that I think finished in Crowley. Finished in the same range as the other race. (sponsors were Dr. Atwood and ? Moran.)
Classics that I miss. Sorry for the spelling.
Burger Chef
Leisure Landing
Steinburgs (spelling) Downtown and Bon Marche
The camera shops. (Southern?) Bought an Olympus OM-2 there. I think.
The old Backpacker near Government/Jefferson. there was also one by LSU on Highland across from The Varsity. Sales guy named Mike was fun to talk to about trails and hiking stories. He had a really good on about taking snowshoes to the Smokies and haveing to use them to get people off of the Appalachian Trail in the Smokies.
The Cohn Turner men's store on Government/Acadian on the east side of Catholic High.
Went to the state fair on the site where Cortana was built. I is now torn down for the new Amazon distribution center.
I miss all of the 1960s and 1970s Baton Rouge Schools. Neighborhood schools.
The Athletic house on Tom Drive. There was a nearby Yamaha motorcycle shop where I got a 125 AT-2 in 9th grade.
There was also a Scandinavian furniture store near I-12/Airline.
The old Great Wall.
Coop Bookstore. Especially old one on the north side of LSU. I think that the new location is now the offices for Walk-on's near the Walk-on's restaurant location near the south side of LSU.
Old Alex Box stadium at LSU. No match for the new stadium, but it had a lot of good moments.
Once again, sorry for the spelling, tense an other errors.

I had forgotten about that place. My mom would take me and my brother there to buy football equipment to play in the BREC league.

Saw my first movie here
Damn I'm old if you saw your first movie at Tinseltown Mine was at Bon Marche Cinema 11. I'd bring back Godchaux on Florida Blvd close to downtown if I had one choice.

The theater in Bon Marche stayed open at least until the mid 90s or so. It was hanging on by a thread for years though. It's a data center now.

Low crime and nice neighborhoods.

That whole Goony Golf area was great. WFMF haunted house, they had a skate board track nearby. Grew up close and would go race it after it closed down and had weeds around it for years.

You could see a movie for a dollar and then go to Pancho's next door and get 4 tacos to go for another dollar.
Our parents used to drop us off, and that was the exact plan for the day! Unsupervised 7th and 8th graders.
If I drove through that area with my kids today:
