At LSU in a botany class.

The professor was from Australia. Two cell phones started ringing at the same time, which was odd at the time. I called my mom from a pay phone under the Union. Most people had a Nokia brick back the. and mine was usually dead.

I skipped class but stayed on campus just so I could keep watching cable news, and was watching when the second tower was hit.

Distinctly remember every cable channel on TV airing the news feed from the parent company. Nickelodeon and MTV showed CBS. Disney Channel showed ABC news. And TBS and TNT showed CNN.

Cartoon Network was basically the only channel that was showing their normal programming.

I watched Cartoon Network for about a week straight.

I had been in Houston for about 3 months after graduating at LSU. My boss and most of department were in Virginia for an ADP (Payroll) conference.

I heard the CFO mention the 1st plane and a few coworkers gathered in conference room to watch TV footage. The consensus seemed to be an accident.

Then I saw the 2nd plane and it all of a sudden became obvious. I watched about 10 minutes more, then went to call my dad.

He said every generation has at least one event where you know the exactly what you were doing. For him it was JFK and this would be mine. He was right and that comment 10 minutes after enforced the gravity of the situation.

Rocking my 7monrh old baby.

There’s a poster here or there was who said he was a teen at the time and his dad was in one of the towers. Every year I think of him and wish I knew the screenname — he’d be 36Ish now. I remember him saying it was hard and that he tended to pretend his dad was on vacation to not be sad about it.

I was getting on the bus to go to tech school for the first half of the day when the driver told me. She had the radio on. We got to class, and for some reason we had History at tech school. We spent the rest of the day there (until lunch) watching. We got back to school, ate lunch, and went to our respective classes. There we watched for the rest of the day and we didn't change classes. The lunchroom was unnaturally quiet. It was just an eerie feeling. I got home and watched the news almost all night. The TVs stayed on at school for days after that.

Oddly enough the first I heard of it was from Jerry Jones while on my way to work.

I was listening to a radio interview with him and he ended it with “our hearts go out to New Yorkers” or something like that and the tone told me something bad had happened. I flipped to a news station after that.

Got to the office and everyone was in the break room watching on TV. We were given the afternoon off, in shock of course.

I was on a treadmill at Travis AFB and it came up on the news. I remember everyone saying get ready to head to Afghanistan. Then I recall thinking there wasn’t any chance in hell we would ever mobilize and attack the Taliban to get a rogue Saudi prince. I certainly never thought we’d spend the next two decades blowing up sand huts in Afghanistan while forging our alliance with Saudi Arabia.

R Condon on the radio. Entered I 10 at Acadian. Headed west. He goes off as second plane hits. Clearly terrorism at this point. On the bridge looking around for planes as I call the wife who is at home with our 1 year old. Crazy day. By that evening she prepared our “bomb bag” to duct tape doors and survive off of candles , water and can goods if a plane hit Riverbend Nuclear or a dirty bomb went off.

I was in my freshman year as well. This thread always makes me feel old when people respond saying they were in 2nd or 3rd grade etc

At school in first grade. I didn’t know what happened until the drive back home and all I remember was watching coverage of the attacks that night.

I was working in a smaller city in England and was the only American at the site. I got stuck there for over a week because of flight restrictions. This was before it was so easy to call home but there were Internet cafes to keep up with email and I’d buy 3 or 4 tabloids every day to read the latest and see boobs.
