I can almost feel the a tear welling up when I think of how much better things were before 9/11. I know it wasn't just that event and know its more how I moved on from childhood and started adult responsibilities.

But before major internet and cell phones and social media. Feels almost like heaven.

Asleep in bed. My grandmother woke me up and told me what happened and I turned on the tv. Both towers had already fallen. I thought about joining the Army, but my Dad told me I wouldn’t pass the physical, particularly the eye exam. I was 20 yo.

Worked the night shift, logged into the desktop to check fantasy football scores from MNF. Saw where first tower was hit by plane. Turned on TV in bedroom to help me get to sleep when second tower was hit.
Stayed up all day watching news.

I was no good at work that night.

Woman’s hospital. Niece was born about 3 hours after the first plane crash.

Happy birthday Amanda!

At my job. All gathered around like an 11” kitchen tube tv. Flat screens weren’t really a thing yet. About 25 people watch that screen. Listened to the radio the rest of the day and watched the news till like midnight. May have only been CNN back then.

With my friend Casey in the KE house at LSU. Called my mom from the pay phones at the bottom of the student union. Skipped the rest of my classes that day and watched CNN.

Work.

Wasn’t (at the time) close to anyone who was directly impacted.

In the ensuing years that has changed. While I’ll never know someone who lost their life in the attacks, I’ve grown to now love people who did and that makes me grieve for them.

Was at the BR airport working on the terminal expansion. Was walking by the break room on the 1st floor of the south departure lounge when I saw them watching the news.

Was in a meeting when the second plan hit. Then we were told we had 15 minutes to get all our workers off site and lock up.

Sophomore in college on my off day. I was cutting grass at Brightside apartments watched it all on the TV in the clubhouse. I called my dad he was in Washington DC testifying in front of congress. While talking to him on a cell phone someone broke into our call and had us identify who we were and why we were on the phone. crazy and tragic day

In college at the time stayed up late night before studying woke up right before class at 10am. Turned on TV and thought there was a Bruce Willis movie on because didn't have the volume up. Turned to next station and the same movie was on , same with the next channel and i was like WTF ? Finally after about 4 channel changes turn up volume and saw what was really going on. Really wish it had been only a movie.

At home, getting ready for the school day.

Dad called and left a voicemail to turn the TV on.
