In a motel with my wife in Texarkana, Tx. Woke up early, lit a cigarette and turned on the TV; the first plane had hit. The newspeople didn't know what was happening. I woke my wife, made coffee, and we saw the second plane hit. We were on the way to Dallas, so we watched awhile, checked out, and hit the road. I remember the quiet, lack of traffic, and the blue sky devoid of aircraft. The next morning we met some Germans in the Book Depository; they were wondering how they were going to make it home, as all air traffic was halted. Everything was very somber.

At work. Wondering why my internet was slow as frick and why I couldn't get on to the FoxNews website.
Call from friend asking if I was watching the fire at the WTC. Said the reports were a plane had hit it. By the time I found a TV (antenna) and put it on, the second one hit.
Got back to my office and my wife called freaking out because she had heard the Pentagon had been and if we were at war. Told her it damned sure seemed like it.
We closed the office and I headed home and watched the world change in real time.
If I'd have been President, every Muslim country would have been glassed.

Dropped my child off at school and turned on the radio. They were talking about the first plane hitting the WTC. I thought it ironic because the History channel had recently broadcast a show about a B-25 crashing into the Empire State Building.
Driving away from the school, I heard about the second plane and knew we were under attack. I watched the buildings on fire at home. I have a friend who I knew worked in the WTC, so I called a mutual friend to hear if they had heard from him. My friend's wife answered and asked me why I was asking if he was still working there. Got a lump in my throat and couldn't speak. Finally just told her that she needed to turn on the TV. Fortunately, he had changed jobs a couple of months before and was in another building near there.
I drove into the office, which was on the 11th floor on a hill and offered a great view of Dobbins AFB. No one was in the office, and it looked like everyone just ran out, leaving their computers on, coffee and donuts half consumed. Dobbins looked like a hornet's nest, with fighters taking off and landing constantly.
I later went back home. The Atlanta freeways were totally deserted, like I drove 25 miles on I-75, I-85, and I-285 and saw maybe 3 other vehicles. The traffic signs said "National Emergency," and it was bizarrely quiet thanks to all planes being grounded and cars and trucks being off the road.

I was sleeping in that morning. I had worked 2nd shift the previous night and got in bed probably a little after midnight.
I was 20.
My dad(RIP) woke me up and told me to turn on my TV. As I was watching the 2nd plane hit my dad, who could over emphasize things at times, stood in my doorway, pointed at me and said , " You better prepare to be activated!"
I was called up, but not until January of '03.
I also remember how blue the sky was that morning.

High School Auditorium... they brought us all in and put the TV feed on, after the first plane and before the second plane... we all watched the towers fall, and they dismissed us for the day shortly after

Well that clearly isn't true. The worse members of every group are despicable.

I was an E-5 Promotable at BNCOC in Ft Knox, KY as a Abrams tanker. Ft Knox used to be the Home of Armor back then.
We were testing out on assembling, disassembling, clearing and function check of the M2 .50 cal down in the motor pool.
Once word got out, they marched us back to the barracks and locked us down. They had no idea what to do with us, because we were in school and not with our regular units. They thought we might get sent back to our units to prepare for deployment. It was a total shite show.

I was working nights.
My girlfriend - now wife (no pics) - called and woke me up to let me know a plane had hit the World Trade Center.
I turned on the news in time to see the second plane hit.

I agree with you, and I’m not saying it’s a good thing. I also don’t think most people do this.

Sitting at my desk on the trading desk at my firm, here in Memphis. At the time I was a bond trader trading corp bonds.
The afternoon prior, right before I left for the day, I was talking with my coverage on treasuries (for hedging purposes). He worked at Cantor. That was hard.
That morning another trader down the floor was talking with a very good friend of his that worked for Sandler O'neil. While they were talking, the phone line went dead. He called back and nothing. Called his cell phone and nothing.
Learned why a few minutes later when the headline went across our Bloombergs that at plane had hit the towers.
