Pretty typical. I wanted to move to NYC at 24. When you get older, you get less impressed with that stuff.

I lived in NYC for a year or so in my early 20s. That sounds like my own personal nightmare now
I don't even really like big cities anymore other than visiting for a few days.

Same
"Amenities" become overkill at some point. I suppose I don't need to be around 5,000 restaurants to be happy.

When raising a family, schools and safety are the deciding factors. Unfortunately, those places tend to be in wealthier zip codes and COL and tax rate are discouraging. Probably some of the wealthier enclaves of Massachusetts and California.

Some of the highest rated states for quality of life are places like Minnesota, New Hampshire, Nebraska, Wisconsin. There are a lot of good places to raise a family that aren't high COL areas.

Obviously there are better places because we just got hammered by a Hurricane but Ponchatoula is pretty damn popular. A good home is only on the market for a day or two without having several offers. I wish these ppl would leave and go somewhere else.

I live where I do because I grew up there and my entire family is there. If they didn't exist, I'd prolly move to a beach in Florida. Who GAF what is going on in politics when you can stare at the Gulf or Ocean everyday.

Isn’t it a bit pricey?
Comparative to Huntsville, AL, $160ish sq/ft for updated home, but many deals to be had in the $125 sq/ft range.
Worth the extra cost if you have kids.

I can - Boston is full of Arrogant assholes, and the traffic/road setup is the fricking worst

I’m in the Southern Appalachians right now.
Very nice people. Great scenery. Low population. Close to the east coast or middle of the US. Seems like a doors unlocked kind of area.

To actually answer the question of the OP, one of the mid size coastal towns in the northeast seems perfect
Get 4 seasons, they aren’t generic, they have ton of history, great schools, etc

Yes, traffic isn't good and our politicians suck, but you can complain about any city. Don't get why everyone jumps on the bandwagon of hating BR and NO so much. It's easier to shite on something than it is to stand up for the good qualities. Stop being lazy and talk about the positives.
Ditto! At one point in my life, anything but LA was right place. Next phase was mountains, oceans, having a real Fall season and all kinds of new things. In the end, realized family is all that matters and most places are lacking laughter and fun-loving spirit, including international places.
Have reconciled LA and its bottom of best lists and top of worst characteristics as things that filter out elsewhere people. It filtered me out for years. I'm back, and I'm back for good reason!
