Walmart is trying to turn that area into mini San Francisco

Well at least Walmart money from the Walton family. They’ve put billions into that economy and it shows. It’s a beautiful place naturally and now they have all the features that make it a well rounded place to live. Restaurants, hiking, biking, art, entertainment, along with quality leadership and infrastructure.
It’s definitely worth considering

Anywhere north of Albuquerque, West of Dallas and East of the Coastal Strip along the West Coast (too expensive)

For starters, any place NOT in Louisiana

Things you can't control:
Weather
Landscape (i.e. how aesthetically pleasing is the area geographically, although beauty is in the eye of the beholder)
Proximity to and people/places/things you enjoy or value
Things you can control:
Regional Politics - you can control how much this affects you personally. All politicians are scum anyway.
Cost of Living - technically you can dictate affordability based on your job, what you value, etc.
Raising a family - you can be a great parent anywhere, and almost any region is family friendly if choose the right location within the region.
Safety - you can choose a safer area almost anywhere.
For example, I'm moving to New York soon to be closer to family as our primary goal, to an area that is considered very family friendly. Some people say "well it's cold there and it's run by liberals". That is true but I DGAF about politics really. And sure it's cold there in the winter, but the summers are amazing relative to daily swamp-arse in Louisiana.
There are tradeoffs everywhere in life you just have to find what you value the most.

So my vote goes to a nicer, small town in the south or mid west....wherever your family lives.
The midwest is an underrated place to raise a family. Granted, not the most exciting area of the country.

Love Fairhope, have property there. Hope to get back one day.
Davidson NC is not too bad though. An hour to the mountains, 2 hours to the coast.

Not much different than the South, except less crime, colder winters and cleaner cities. Given the choices, I'd rather live in the MW

When your businesses are forced to close or kids are forced injections and taught things you don’t agree with, local politics are more important than you care to realize

Anyone ever moved from Louisiana to the mountains with a real winter? Lived in LA my whole life so I’m used to the heat, if I moved it’d be somewhere with mountains but not sure how I’d like the cold/snow for 6 months

the key to the midwest is you want to be north of the southern border of MN (not an exact line, but thereabouts)
that's where it starts to change from the dreary plains of indiana into pine and hardwoods forests, rolling hills, more lakes and clean streams than you could ever imagine
lots of deer too, if you're into that. eta- and wayyyy more public land than most of the south

The landscape certainly isn't ideal in places like Nebraska or Iowa but neither is Louisiana or Mississippi. But they are high quality places to live for families.

ok, go live in south Chicago or any ghetto and let's see you prove that theory.
My sister lives in south Chicago and she’s a very happy person as is her family She’s a nurse and husband a mechanic, not rich at all but very happy people.

most people don't realize there is a white middle class in the southside. it's not all BDs and GDs shooting each other.
