Bob Ross painted more than 1,000 landscapes for his television show — so why are they so hard to find? We solve one of the internet’s favorite little mysteries.

Youtube link

I grew up watching Bob Ross on PBS. It was a treat, on a rainy summer day, to watch Ross paint his landscapes, while being lulled into a hypnotic state by his voice.

I think I'd sell my first born for an original Bob Ross painting.

ETA: For those too lazy to click the link. The paintings are held in storage by Bob Ross Incorporated. They have donated a few of the paintings to be shown in the Smithsonian as part of the American History Museum.

Here’s some little words right here. Just falling off the tips of my fingers. Onto my keyboard, making a pretty little line of text. Isn’t that fun. Just makes me warm inside. Anyone can do it. There are no mistakes, just happy little accidents.

I’m not really an art person, but I’d love to have an original Bob Ross from the show

Agreed. Wait til the blue hairs die. The inheritors will realize they are sitting on a gold mine.

*Spoiler alert*

Most of them are in a warehouse in Virginia. And apparently not for sale.

Actually sad that they just have them stored away. Surprised Bob wouldn't have sold them to fans.

He would have given them away before selling them

Edit: And he did end up giving away most of his paintings to local PBS stations

Most of the ones from the show were originally given to local PBS stations and auctioned off at fundraisers to raise money.

An original goes for around 4-5k at the floor all the way to 20k last time I checked

Yes I looked into buying some Bob Ross paintings

Fwiw, his story is very cool
