Can we stop playing this game with infrastructure funding? The gas tax hasn’t been raised in 30 years. The backlog of infrastructure needs in this state grows by hundreds of millions every year.

No, because the instant voters pass a "dedicated" tax, those useless fricks in the capitol will just take money that was being used for those purposes from other funds and start spending them elsewhere. No more money is spent on the "earmarked" purposes, we've got extra taxes to pay, and they get more money to steal. It's the same thing they did when the money was "earmarked" for education when the lottery started. It's the same thing they'll do any time money is "earmarked".
frick them. Don't give them more money. Make them explain why they're spending money on funding stupid bullshite instead of public infrastructure.

This is a vague question with no answer that will satisfy you. But yea, I’m aware that the money has been misused in the past.
That doesn’t change the fact that we have one of the oldest gas taxes in the nation, it hasn’t kept pace with inflation, and that our yearly needs are outpacing our funding by hundreds of millions of dollars.
I don’t think it’s impossible to learn from our mistakes and pass a tax dedicated 100% to infrastructure that can’t be raided by state police or anyone else.

Then "we", the public should make sure its truly dedicated when the tax is designed, and if someone tries to divert it we should, tell them to go to hell. Frankly there is no possible way the state can fix all of this stuff with existing funding options.

They have a nearly a billion dollars annually for capital outlay. Of the 14.3 billion dollar backlog, over 9 is bridges. If those idiots knew wtf they were doing and should some progress maybe, but I'm not sure they've brought in a project close to on time and on budget. They had to rework toll road to Fourchon because the turn wasn't designed correctly. The low bridges between fourchon and GI are being reworked because of poor design. Tide came up and shifted deck. And you want us to give them more money? How about some fricking pink slips first.
