I doubt traffic is an issue for someone in his Mommy's basement looking at animal pics and taking edgy Men's Health magazine stances.

Is this comment truly in response to my thoughts on “traffic is bad” guy, or is this coming from a place of pain? If I’ve hurt you in some way then I’d like you to know that I support your attempts to heal yourself.

Took me close to an hour and a half to get to my office in Gonzales from my home in Sherwood Forest. Just unreal.

They have a nearly a billion dollars annually for capital outlay. Of the 14.3 billion dollar backlog, over 9 is bridges. If those idiots knew wtf they were doing and should some progress maybe, but I'm not sure they've brought in a project close to on time and on budget. They had to rework toll road to Fourchon because the turn wasn't designed correctly. The low bridges between fourchon and GI are being reworked because of poor design. Tide came up and shifted deck. And you want us to give them more money? How about some fricking pink slips first.

I would love to see a candidate run with DOTD reform as a major part of their platform. But we all should understand that even if DOTD was the most efficient and effective public agency in the state we still don't have enough funding to repair our infrastructure.

Here is a brief history of road construction in Baton Rouge for the last fifty years or so:

Plan road to handle expected traffic conditions five years in the future.

Take ten years to build said road.

Road obsolete before it even opens.

Rinse and repeat.

Someone explain to me how the NTTA here in DFW can take about a year/year and a half to expand the DNT to 4 lanes (which included a total redo of some ramps at the Bush Stack), Bush to I-35 now going to 4 lanes, and SRT from FREAKING THE COLONY TO MCKINNEY going to 4 lanes, but BR cant make a mile stretch of road finished in less than 5?

What in the actual frick?

It takes at least two years to sort out who gets kickbacks and how much.

Louisiana is gonna Louisiana.

Until you, spastic sons of bitches learn that tollways will fix your issues enjoy the shitty traffic.

There is some sense to be made here. Not federal interstate but La. Hwy 70 Miss. River Sunshine Bridge opened with and kept toll booths collecting money from users for years without any real outrage. Seems they collected necessary revenue, then the booths were removed. Relatively painless and the expense paid by those who needed the bridge most... those who didn't weren't burdened.

I'd bet most benefiting from the huge convenience felt their money was well spent. Tollways look like the best win/win plan to get relief where needed and keep the expense where it belongs. The small delay and expense of a toll booth is a non-issue if considering the alternative of a 2 hr+ round trip drive-around necessary if not for access to the bridge.

That census is similar to all major growing cities with large successful suburban neighboring cities. As much as I think BR is a cesspool, the fact is it is not much different from other cities of similar sizes in the US in its census patterns.

City grows, people of means leave for more space and to escape big city problems, they continue to commute to said city for work. It's very much a cyclical thing. In another 50 years the housing market will be so poor in the city that aggressive investors begin gentrification of the area; hell, it's already begun in some areas.
