Had a Siberian that was the sweetest and most beautiful cat you’ll ever see. She was so athletic her whole life, she could jump up on a 10 foot fence with ease. I thought with how big and strong she was that she’d live to 20.
I just lost her last June to intestinal cancer at 14 and I’m nowhere close to over it. Just try to always remember the great memories.

My boxer being put down about 4 yrs ago changed me. He was abnormally large for his breed and averaged about 85 lbs his whole life. I went from not noticing a thing was wrong with him to losing him within 2 wks. Noticed a small lump under his jaw one day and made a vet appt for the following day and he was diagnosed with lymphoma. After discussing the options it appeared that the best course was just to enjoy the time I had left with him as treatment may have prolonged his life by 6 months to a year and it would have been a fairly miserable one. After that diagnosis day the tumor grew to the size of a baseball in about 10 days. Woke up one morning and he couldnt even close his mouth anymore, and wasnt eating so brought him in. I took two shots for him to pass. The first one was supposed to be plenty but he just didnt want to stop living it seemed. I held him the entire time and after 5 mins from the first shot which was supposed to be plenty of time he opened his eyes and look up at me. It absolutely broke me heart. They gave him a 2nd shot and even that took another 3-4 mins until his heart finally stopped. I was really attached to him as it seemed like he was there for everything important in my life up to that point. Finishing school, getting a job, buying my first house, losing relationships, he was the one constant. And then he wasnt.

Cats aren't as hard as dogs they know their time and go and die.
Dogs we are expected to kill for "mercy". Something I dred with every dog.

We lost both our dogs within three months of each other last year. It still hurts and I think about them every day. I want to say it gets better but you just get used to them being gone. You still miss them a lot.

Have a cat that is turning 19 today.
I was right where you are about 2 months ago. I had cat that was 18 years old. Loved that lil rat. She started declining about a year ago, developed arthritis in her hind legs. We'd get her a cortisone shot every 6 months or so and she still seemed happy and content and pain free. Started losing weight pretty quickly about a 3 months ago, and she was a petite little thing to begin with. Finally, her eating and drinking pretty much slowed to a stop and she took a huge turn for the worse. Stopped grooming herself, kept wanting to go outside and just wouldn't eat. So, I made the decision and took her in. It was tough, I cried. Not gonna lie. People that give you shite about being a cat owner can kiss my arse. I like cats more than dogs, at least to own. I still miss little Mickie, although I already have another Bengal cat that I 'rescued' from a divorcing couple.
R.I.P to your little cat.

I know about the end of the life for a cat. They'll start losing weight, you'll notice how bony their neck/ scruff area will get. Then they won't clean themselves as well as they used to. Otherwise, sometimes you won't really notice. They tend to try to put on a "I'm ok" look
Yep, that's exactly how mine went.

I forgot who said that in a post before this, but that made me chuckle. I'm cat lover but that was pretty funny.

I got there really late and didn't want to wake anyone. He was there by the door and we spent a good ten minutes together. Him smelling me, remembering his old daddy.
Woke up in the morning and he had gone out to his favorite tree and died

My Amstaff will be 12 in April. I’ve had him since he was 7 weeks old. He still looks great but you know big dogs, when they go they go quick.

I need to call the vet in the morning. Our girl can't even hold her head up for take a step. She's not recovering from the chemo. I'm pretty sure tomorrow will be her last day. I'm beyond sad. She's been the best dog I have ever owned, and I've owned a bunch. This one will hurt for a long time.
Not sure how her sister will respond. Tomorrow is going to be a bad day for my wife and I I think. We'll see what the doctor says, but I'm pretty sure he's going to say there is no coming back.

Thanks to all for sharing.
Had to put down a 20 year old Persian (wife and my cat [by marriage]) when out of nowhere she grew a tumor on her lower jaw. Had to put down our 10 year old Siamese less than a year later for what I believe to this day was a broken heart. Held them bith for their last breaths and cried my fricking eyes out both times.
We are going to be a wreck with this one. My wife and I drove to Houston to get her and she's a year older than our oldest child (she's been our children's cat their whole lives). I just hope she can make it to the summer.

So very sorry man, most of us have been there & it sucks
“Having a dog will bless you with the happiest days of your life,
and one of the worst days.”
“No one can truly understand the bond that we form with our cats we love until they experience the loss of one.”
“Our beloved pets teach us more than we could ever have expected, and they love us more than we could have hoped.”

I had a dog very HGE, fine on Friday morning, blood coming out both ends that night.
Vet at LSU next day, went to see him after work. He couldn't even pick up his head.
Was asked if I wanted to treat it (no treatment options really) I said yes. Stayed until I was asked to leave.
They called me before I got home and said he passed.
Crazy was a healthy Staffordshire Terrier.
Just like people they can be gone in an instant.

Well, my sweet girl passed away a couple of hours ago. Can't even describe how sad I am, but am glad we were by her side the whole time.
She was an amazing companion and will be missed terribly.

It's been over twenty years ago and I still remember that feeling.
Back in 2001 my wife called me at work. I had just gotten in my truck to drive the 55 miles home. She told me Jaz had been run over and had died. I can honestly say that I don't remember driving home that day. I bought her a 400 lb. tombstone and buried her in the backyard. She was instrumental in helping me get over my divorce from the first wife and even more instrumental in being responsible for me meeting my second wife. She was a special dog.

I dread the day I have to put down my oldest dog, a 7 year old whippet who has been with me through it all these last years.
They know when you're down and need a little love. They just know.

My 15 year-old beagle tried her best but just couldn't get up to walk her last four days. I'd pick her up and take her outside and hold up her back-end so she could use the bathroom. We had decided three days earlier to put her down but the vet wasn't available to come to the house for those three days to put her down. The day he and his asst. show up the wife and I greet them at the front door and stand in the foyer while talking. In less than a minute here comes my dog slowly walking and looking as if she would fall over at any time. Her tail was wagging and she had the most peaceful look on her face that I had seen in a couple of weeks.
She was ready. Man, that was a rough day.

My dogs have always been dear to me so I can relate. Over the years, I have shared my life with 9 dogs, 10 counting the young hound dog I am now raising.
Losing a dear companion always hurts. Keep the love and memories alive in your heart.
And may God bless you.
