We are going to be a wreck with this one. My wife and I drove to Houston to get her and she's a year older than our oldest child (she's been our children's cat their whole lives). I just hope she can make it to the summer.

My Grandmother was one of six children growing up in a family where her Father had made it through the Civil War. They had land but they were not financially well off.
When my first cat was poisoned (I was five), Grandmother told me how she and her sisters and brother dealt with deaths of their pets. They had a funeral and each brought their own special pet and they read from the Book of Common Prayer. That let me place my pets perspective because as a child, I just knew sad and loss. Perspective helped.

She's chasing mice in heaven now.
She knew...it's amazing how they know.
Passed peacefully in my arms at 8:30 this morning with the kind assistance of her vet.

My 14 year old bird dog buddy is dying. Vet gave him two months and he has now made it 4 months. He is a fighter

Our Border Collie was done and didn't move at all as we took her to the vet. The vet's staff loved her, and one of the girls that worked there has a boy around 2-3. She was in the back of the suburban when she was put down.
She had not moved, but the little boy came out to say goodbye. He petted her, told her that he loved her and that she'd be alright. The dog lifted her head up and gave him some dog kisses, and put her head back down.
That was the last movement she ever made in her life. In ten minutes, she was gone.
