If I notice it while at the store, I fix it, if I get home and notice it I call. Never had them ask me to come back and pay, but I do ask.

At a mom and pop - probably call them and fix it.
At a national chain - not even worth it, as they wouldn't even notice.

I would probably be surprised that I noticed being under charged by a few bucks.

I was at a restaurant in Toronto a couple of weeks ago when the server left out two beers and an appetizer from my check. I noticed that and asked her to correct it.

It's unlikely that I will notice being under or over charged for an item at Costco or Trader Joe's unless it is a big deviation. I use Wal Mart Grocery pickup a lot now too, so I won't even actually see them ring it up. Maybe I should start checking my receipts.

Yes. If I was still at the store and saw the the cashier didn't charge me for something, I would bring it to his/her attention. If I had already made it home and, the item wasn't expensive, I wouldn't go back. If the item was something expensive, I'd probably return to the store and bring it to their attention.

bought car battery at walmart and brought the old one for core rebate. Cultcha'ed young lady F'ed up the transaction so bad that she gave me a 100% refund for the old battery, and the new battery for free. I said something but she was so confused she told me to "just go, it'll be fine"....I didnt know you could do that on wally world computers. I think she found a way to beat their Cray motherbrain sitting up in Fayetteville...damn

So she rang you up for an exchange and just let you have a free replacement instead of trying to do it correctly?

That's pure laziness on her part. It worked in your favor too.

My time is too valuable to return to the store for their error. I've caught things like this during the transaction and gladly made sure they charge me, but no way am I going back to the store.

I would bring it to the stores attention if I'm still there for sure. If I've already left and don't discover it until I get home or where I'm going then I'll call back and speak with the manager to ask them what they would like me to do, no exceptions. Most, for a small amount, thank me for calling and don't want me to pay. Again, this would be for a small error and this almost never happens. On two occasions the error was over $15 and when I went to the store the next time I brought the item to the register and had them ring it and then handed it back to them. I usually have one or more of my grandkids with me, as my wife and I are raising three of our grandkids, and I look at this as a great opportunity to teach them right from wrong. If we can't pay for it we don't need it. It sticks with them and makes them rethink the whole "hey they made the error, good for me" attitude. And, something to remember is if you know about it and do nothing you are stealing, you can't justify that away.

In certain stores it is not uncommon to have unmarked sales. I have very often had items ring up at a lower price because of that and the last thing I would do is try to pay more money because the marked price is higher. Nobody does that.

In light of that, it is not the customer's obligation to figure out what is an unmarked sale and what is a cashier mistake.

Answer: Absolutely not.

Not so. If I was in the store and caught it I will tell them. If I am home I am not going back. I value my time at home. It is not about getting something for free. I can always get more money but my time is mine.

If I catch it while she's ringing it up, sure. If I get home? Nope.

The amount of justifications you can make with that massive leap of logic is hilarious.

That's never happened that I've noticed. If it's worth more than a few bucks I would probably bring it back and pay for it. Less than that, I don't know, might let it slide

If it was a material amount I would have noticed and said something. Not my responsibility to go correct all their screw ups.

No. If I notice during the transaction I will say something. If I've already left the store, who cares. The cashier isn't getting in trouble. Maybe if it was a high-dollar item from a mom-and-pop store I would go back and pay but someplace like WalMart, nah.

I don't think about this stuff once I leave the store so when it happens it happens while I'm in front of the cashier. And I do mention it.
