Pitiful downtown and city

Thats a new one, cranes which apparently represent development to the OP, is the new standard of determining whether a city is pitiful or not. I appreciate no "cranes" as opposed to what Jackson or Montgomery have become. Not saying that should be the standard but just pointing out it could be worse.

Marriott finished construction in 2018.
Apartment Building on Convention in 2018
Water Campus pier building in 2017
IBM in 2016.

There’s another building underway at the water campus now. Should be the site of the first crane downtown for 2019.

Marriott was just a renovation of an existing structure, and the water campus is not solely a private development. While its called the "IBM building" and a great thing for downtown and all of LA, IBM did not build it or come here without a heavily subsidized package, and in the first year almost missed their target number of employees. Physical cranes are not the indicator that should be used to determine economic growth

It was new construction. Opened in November.

You are thinking of the Watermark, which opened earlier last year. That’s an awesome hotel.

I guess there is no winning. The OP seems to think that cranes are an indicator of economic growth. Now that we know that Baton Rouge has seen cranes downtown very recently, they are not an indicator of economic growth.

He’s not wrong that cranes represent development. But he’s wrong in assuming Baton Rouge hasn’t had cranes recently. Several buildings topped off downtown in the past year.

It’s not Chicago or San Francisco, but it’s definitely not Jackson, Shreveport, Beaumont, or Montgomery either.

Like many OT posters, the OP probably too afraid of encountering a black person to have actually gone downtown and noticed.

Adding to that, there’s a shite ton of industrial expansion in south Louisiana that’s driven by cheap natural gas, river access, or state tax breaks.

Also, New Orleans sucks and ULM is the flagship of the University of Louisiana system.

Several new Buildings went up in Downtown BR a couple of years ago. An apartment building on Convention is just finishing up. A new hotel opened a month or so ago, and the IBM complex opened a year ago. The new library would have just opened, but "broke".

OP hasn’t been to 3rd Street since 1991.

Don’t forget the ambulance chaser office going up near Pastime.

There’s a helipad on it that will never be used.

Wrong, it's a completely new building, and yes there was a crane there during its construction. There is also a new building being built as we speak at North St. and I believe Seventh and also a large apartment complex at Florida and Sixth. Spencer Callahan is also building a large office near the Pastime. There's been plenty of new additions over the past several years. You haven't been paying attention.

I live in Arlington VA and walk a mile to work each day. Currently that involves passing three cranes on two work sites, and that's slightly lower than average over the past ten years. If I drove the number would be far higher.

What are you, retarded? They just finished a new Marriot a couple of months ago on the corner of Florida and Third. I drove under that crane every day for months. More recently they finished a luxury apartment building at Florida and Sixth and there is something else going up at Sixth and North street.

Its a sign of economic development. Is not that difficult to understand why.

In land locked cities yes. The industries in Louisiana need land and a lot of companies it wouldn't make sense to build in the most expensive part of town.
