Is there a county sheriffs department where Minneapolis is? That’s who would have control. Don’t know how that works there.

I'm just shocked that something like this can be done without a vote of the people. Surely there are more protections elsewhere, and this is some freak thing.

I love the police, but yes i would live in MPLS mainly because my job is here and it's hard to relocate. I'd have to stock up on guns and ammo though

They aren't leaving. THIS is what many likely want.
Minnesota has been a liberal stronghold for decades. Minneapolis is the epicenter of that. It's not an overly dangerous city (relative to other large metropolises). So the mindset that the city/police need to be "tough on crime" probably doesn't permeate as much as it man in other cities. Plus, two of the more noteworthy recent instances of alleged police overreach/excessive violence have occurred there (Floyd and Philando Castile)

Is this like the city in California a few years ago that got rid of their city police department? All they did was fire all the police they had responsibility for and contract out with the County Sheriff's office to take over policing duties. They just switched the funding from their police to the sheriff, so I'm not sure what they really accomplished other than saying they got rid of their police.
