When do self-driving features become common in mainstream cars?

They are already available on a couple of higher end luxury brands now. How long would it take for you to build trust in these systems?
Telsa Auto Pilot
Cadillac Super Cruise
I'm shocked that the legal teams at car companies aren't obstructing this more.

I say we pilot it with women and anyone under the age of 25.

It'll be a while. First off, you gotta think most people are going to want years of documentation that they are safe. This will be delayed somewhat because lawyers are going to see the gigantic pockets of Ford, Chevy, ect. and go balls to the wall suing the shite out of everyone every single accident. Once that's out of the way, it still has to come down in price for most people to purchase. So it'll be a while.

A lot of people probably think the first generation of this technology is already better than most women drivers.

It'll take a generation. Think of all the people you know that drive 10+ Year old cars....those people aren't going to buy a 70k Tesla even if they're in the market for a new car.
I'll reluctantly take part in it if it's affordable in the next window I purchase a car. I actually enjoy driving in traffic free circumstances (which my commute it). There's just something about it that's soothing after a day of work....keeps me away from the phone and computer.

That Cadillac video was pretty impressive

The tesla video talked about how the car shits itself when roads are bad and not smooth sooooooo in that case they will never be in Louisiana unless that is fixed

Aren't they already demonstrably safer than the average driver right now?

Long hauling trucks will be first to go driverless.

The Cadillac system uses lidar mapping of the freeway. Supposedly it still tracks dead center of the lane even when the lane markings are worn.
The drawback is that it is (at least now) only compatible with freeways and limited access highways.

Even if it only worked for freeways that would be amazing
At the very LEAST say you needed to drive from BR to Houston. You actively drive until you get on I-10. Then on a major freeway, hit the autopilot and nap. Or read. Or call people. Or just sit there and look around.
The potential for this technology is amazing. At the MOST think of it like having a chauffeur everywhere you go. You're out celebrating the reopening of Reggies. You're hammered. You take out your keys. Hit a button on your key fob. In 5 minutes your car navigates from your house to Reggies to pick you up. You climb in the back seat. Pass out. And car drives you home.
An even FURTHER step of this is what Elon Musk eventually wants. Nobody OWNS cars. You use uber. There are uber drones driving around the city unmanned all the time. You request one to pick you up and it takes you wherever you want to go. Drops you off. And re enters the pool of available drones driving around to pick people up.
It will happen. Get ready baws

Common in mainstream cars? Probably a minimum of 30 years... we are in the very infancy of this technology and not really close at all to widespread implementation.

and we need an iphone7

Not until artificial intelligence comes a very long way. Maybe 10 years, maybe 100. I'd put my money on the latter.

I've been looking at the inifiniti q50 and even the 2014 version had a self driving feature. I had no idea.

I'm wondering what vehicle to stockpile for when all cars become self driving. These will be the "classic cars" 20 years from now.

I have a 2015 Q50 and it is awesome. Automatic braking and lane control.
Even if every car had these features I think accidents would go way down.
