What's your response when people suggest you to get a new car?

I'm not OT rich by any means, but I do make decent money. I drive a 15yrs old car with @100K trouble free miles.
Probably at least 5 times a week I get a coworker or friend telling me I should get a new car. Usually by the same individuals that are still making payments on their several yrs old car.

Mind your own fricking business. That’d be my answer.

I ask them how many vacations they went on this year.

Unless it’s your boss, tell them to frick off

I have never once in my entire life had someone suggest to me that I get a new car.
So idk.

Sounds like you work with assholes.

If I could afford a new car, don't you think I'd have one?
I drive a 10 year old beater on its last legs. It's had a lot of expensive and dangerous problems the last few years which have been only barely mitigated. I've probably sunk more money into repairs the last 2 years than the ugly POS is worth. It's just got to last a few more months (hopefully).

Your car must be a real piece of shite if people are saying that on a regular basis

My car is 12 years old and has 153,000 Miles. It is running fine and have had very few issues with it ever. So, I’m keeping it until it won’t go anymore. To each his own but I’ve never been obsessed with flashy, expensive cars.

I’d rather not own a vehicle in general if I could.

I say something like, “We will as soon as we can stop eating cat food.”

frick 'em. I have a car and a truck, both paid for. Enjoy your monthly note, and the extra insurance you have to pay for.

I would not listen to them. These are the same people that are likely broke, can't come up with $1000 cash if they had to and are in debt up to their ears with a car payment, credit card debt, student loans and a home mortgage.
Do what is best for you and your financial situation. If you are happy with what you have, that is all that really matters.

I don't think I've ever had that happen

Offer to let them pay for it.
