Use the Uncle Buck response: “like hell I am..the beast is good for another 100,000 miles.”

Dallas Cowboys running back Alfred Morris is the kind of guy who could probably drive whatever he wants. But his ride of choice is still "The Bentley," a 1991 Mazda 626 he bought from his pastor for $2.00 while he was in college.

My 14 year old truck has all of the options as most new cars, and is in good shape. It's paid for, so why would I get something new?

You only have 100k miles? There are many cars only about 3-4 years old with more miles than that. And no one is telling them to get a new car.
Maybe your car just looks like shite. Do you keep it parked outside or garaged? Do you keep it clean?

Yep. Not only will you now have a car payment, you will also have a higher insurance premium. It adds up over time.

I'll have my car paid off in about a year, I dont plan on buying another one until this one stops rolling. I take care of it, I'll be damned if I jump right back into another payment.

Sounds like you should eat a new car. You’re current car is so awful it’s embarrassing your coworkers. What kind of image do you think that projects on the company?

Don't blame you. I've got a 2003 that's been paid off for 12 years. KOW, not a thing wrong with it.

I just tell them there is no point. I drive a truck that is paid off with no performance issues and less than 100K miles. It needs some minor repairs that are mostly cosmetic. I can’t justify putting down a down payment and picking up another note when everything that needs fixing would cost less than $1000 and just a few hours of work. For the time being, I’m going save and in a few years I’ll have enough saved to buy a nice used Tundra or F150.

I knew a guy who was OT rich and he drove a beat up Nissan Altima. He could literally pick any car off any lot he wanted and he chose not to.

Most people dont value the stress a new car puts on them but he did. Everytime you buy something nice and want to take care of it...the world has a way of intervening especially if you work in NOLA.

He said every time another car dinged him in a parking lot, every wreck, etc. In addition to bringing unwanted attention to yourself it would bring more stress than it was worth.

Nothing wrong with milking what you have and maximizing the value on what you already bought. At the end of the day it is just a car. A lot of other things are more important. Like owning a home, retirement plan, vacations, investments.

5 times a week? I doubt that very much

I drive an 03 and have never once had anyone tell me to get a new a car. Maybe my friends and coworkers just aren’t nosy assholes
