Years ago I worked at a Greek owned restaurant. The Christmas party we’d cook steak or chicken based on your choice. They’d break out the whiskey and wine and get drunk. Karaoke machine, etc. Of course there was an after party right around the corner which was interesting to say the least.

Post-2020, this kind of (corp sponsored) stuff is increasingly rare. Great way to get cancelled.
Just in my career (~15 yrs), the epic parties have really faded. Now you make a donation to a charity drive, take photos around the gifts your company donated, and have a nice lunch. THE END

Yeah early 00s I worked for a software company that was mostly young people (early 20s to mid 40s)and we had some pretty epic Christmas parties. They rented out a nice banquet hall and it was catered with an open bar. We had several employees get DUIs, girls from the office making out, coworkers hooking up. This went on until 2008.
I don't work there anymore but things have become a lot more tame in my experience.

At the height of my firm's extravagant Xmas parties in the early 2000's seven or eight of the 3rd/4th year associates decided it would be a good idea to hire escorts/strippers as dates. After an hour of open bar and probably several trips to the ladies to powder their noses, they were stripping on the dance floor. Several fights broke out and the hotel called the cops. That was the last full firm Christmas party, we just started giving the staff $500 extra in bonus and everyone was happy.

That was back when DWI checkpoints were a thing and fully staffed with Fed dollars.
My department is very tame. Now the sales and marketing people is a different story

Probably either Vegas or Cabo. Honestly, back in the day you could have put us in Bunkie and we'd have torn it up.

Yep and no Uber.
I was married for most of them so I took my wife, had a couple of drinks and showed my face and ducked out. I remember some of the wild ones though

Flew from Tokyo to Manila. We stayed nearly 5 days in Angeles City.
Bosses big speech: " if you murder someone, I can get you out of it, if you rape someone, I can get you out of it, if you are caught with drugs, you are on your own"

In Vegas? Seems a little "off the beaten path."

This here, I have older colleagues/friends who worked for the big garbage companies or O&G back in the 80s/90s, lots of big parties, everything (on and off the books) paid with cash, no receipts. I only saw the very end of this era.
Also, the campaign and political finance reforms of the 90s and early 2000s played a role. Wild parties often weren't about rank and file employees, they were really about partying and making deals with public officials for big contracts.

Does anyone have a link to this thread? So good.

This post calls to mind that Mad Men episode where one of the execs is riding a lawnmower at a company party and cuts his leg off. Or something wild like that happens….
I have no insane company parties to tell about, however….

4 of us took a 10’ tree apart in the hallway of a hotel between ballrooms and placed it in the cup on the 4th green right outside the doors. Cost us each 1/4 the cost of a new tree but we donated it to a battered women’s shelter and got a receipt to write off on our taxes. frick that hotel GM for making us wait 3 hours to do what we told him we were going to do earlier in the night.

Quality Assurance Manager got drunk, crapped in his pants, and passed out. CEO was dirty dancing with an elderly woman in a purple sweatsuit.

My old company's Christmas parties in the 80's sometimes got pretty wild. Probably had a lot to do with when(The early 80's) and where(Dallas) more than anything. The company did have an open bar, and most people drank a lot, but there was a lot of coke snorted in bathrooms. I didn't make a habit of sleeping with women from the office, but that happened twice after a couple of them. The most memorable one was the one when our GM came to the hotel bar with seven or eight of us after the company party was over. At one point, she did an impression of every employee at the table.
When she did me, she started, "Hi, I'm chinese58. I'm from Louisiana. I love Louisiana and LSU."
ETA: We ceased having open bar parties after one of our dispatchers got very drunk & had a wreck on his way home. Two people in the other car were killed.
The company always had them at hotels, and they always got us a deal on hotel rooms, but he might not have made enough to pay for half the room on a dispatcher's salary.

Circa ‘88, a-hole German terrorists took us all hostage during our Christmas Eve party.

Up until a few years ago between my wife's work or mine, we always had great open bar parties at venues in the city.
My company now will give out two drink tickets so they can "pretend" to limit their liability. The bartenders didn't seem to mind giving extra drinks though.

Not my story but a friend's. His wife worked for big company in ATL. They had their Christmas party at the Omni CNN hotel. Guy way down the ladder at company gets drunk and starts hitting on all the women and being an arse. His wife/GF goes up to the room. My friend and his wife finally get him to go up to his room to sleep it off. Well the guy gets there and realizes his woman has left. As my friend, friend his wife and another friend are leaving the guy starts shooting through the door. My friend is hit and his wife is grazed. My buddy is hit in femoral artery and almost bleeds out right there. luckily his wife has some medical knowledge and saved him and his leg. He has a real tough time getting his leg right and several surgeries. The guy eventually went to prison bur Fulton County did almost everything to let him back on the street. Terrible story and amazing what one bullet to the leg can do.
