That's sweet, I love you too.

Even if they are, I still don't give shite. Me staying up at night and fretting about those damn poor people and their tattoos isn't going to change some broken-arse government system. I prefer to worry about things I can actually control.

Gee this topic has never been discussed

Personally not my thing

I don't think all of them are trashy though. But some of them definitely are.

They are the "mullet haircut" of this era, unfortunately once you realize how stupid they are you cant just get a new hairstyle.

I have never wanted one. Dont care if others do. Seems 80% of my generation has them. Some are cool. Some look like trash. All will fade as time goes on. Whatever

The reasons that people get tattoos are found in all socioeconomic groups so I’m not sure that calling them “trashy” is accurate.

You have victims of childhood trauma who get them as a form of acting out. This is especially true of professionals who don’t get recognition based on their accomplishments alone. They want to tell society (usually a stand-in for Daddy) “I’m successful even though I’m rebelling against you by getting these tattoos.” The best treatment for those folks is therapy to identify their issues and deal with them.

Others get tattoos because they think they are making a unique or sentimental statement. Believe me, there are thousands of other unique individuals out there who have a fleur de lis or LA state map with the LSU tiger eye on the inside. Go ahead and get your kids’ birthdays tattooed on your chest and don’t worry what kind of creepy images that puts in your SO’s mind when you are being intimate. These people just need better friends or acquaintances who discourage them from getting a tattoo. The parents of these folks failed to prepare them for functioning in society.

Then there are the weak-minded, bandwagon tag alongside who get a tattoo because it’s “hip.” They don’t realize that what’s important to them now will probably be meaningless in 10 years. The upside is that their Spongebob tattoo will be unrecognizable in ten years. There’s no hope for these people - they will remain dumb and happy and are harmless as long as they stick with their own.

It's just one of the perks, brah

I specifically joined the Navy bc I like drinking and cursing. Now when people tell me I drink or curse like a sailor I can say "well duh". It's like a free pass.

I'm interested in getting a shoulder piece or half sleeve done one day. But then I go outside and see how hot it gets in the South, and I question whether or not I'd be able to wear long sleeves to work everyday.

Not my thing and whether they are trashy or not, they make you look just a little trashier. We live in an upper middle class area. We've been taking my son to the local waterpark in the neighborhood (part of the township, not your typical waterpark where people who don't live there would go). It is quite funny how many people have shitty tattoos. It most certainly makes them look trashier than if they didn't have it. Not going to outright call them trashy because I wouldn't think that with their shirts on. But there is no case where I would say someone looks better with the tattoo than without. Might be shitty to judge people like that, but it's what happens.

I just did an ironman and lots of people get the ironman tattoo. Multiple people have asked when I'm getting mine. I don't know what I want for lunch today much less if I'll want something permanently stenciled on my body in 5 years. Even if it is a major accomplishment I hold in high regard. I can think back on it just fine. Don't need a logo.

Fashions and trends change. They'll come into style (or rather, they somewhat already have), then they'll fade by next generation.

You can do them right or very wrong, btw. And when done right, they look damned good on a female IMO. Plan on getting one someday when the time is right. A Celtic cross.

Yep, I kinda look at Marines, especially Grunts, that don't have tats somewhat funny. In fact, I don't know many Marines that haven't seen a deployment or 2 regardless of MOS that don't have at least 1.

I have several. I would just about have to dress like a nun to cover them all, but I don't really give a shite about people seeing them. Just wonder why this seems like one of those things people on here seem to feel so strongly about. Why does it bother you so much what someone does to themselves?

I have two. I instantly regretted both of them but I’ll probably get more. I got a giant P&G Fleur De Lis on my left pec and then some Japanese writing on my left bicep...

There has never been a tattoo that improved ones appearance. There have been billions that made people uglier. I don’t get it.

More people have them than not. I wouldn't get one, but to each their own.
