re: What’s your dream retirement destination?

East Texas just outside of Tyler.
I found three adjacent lots (1/2 acre total) owned by a POA because the owners didn't want to pay POA dues any longer. POA office manager told me about them while I was down there over a holiday. Took SO to see them and although she wonders how I'm going to turn what looks like a miniature jungle into a retirement home, she loves the trees on them. Also she has some health issues but there are two medical clinics within five miles (the two are on opposite corners of a major intersection with a pharmacy on another).
Title search came back clear on all three. Working on financing now, if all goes well plan to make an offer by month's end for slightly less than the POA wants. POA has owned the lots for five years and I think they will take the offer.
Still have 8-9 years before retirement.

Went up there for thanksgiving this past year, really liked it. Would definitely be on the list.

stay home on the weekends
When you're retired every day is a weekend! It's great...
I always vacillate on where I want to live. I love the mountains and cooler summer weather, enjoy the peace and quiet of the country, love the smell of the salt water on the coast and enjoy the benefits of the city (concerts, restaurants, museums, etc).
I also like being close to my kids and grandson as family is important to me. We will make a decision when my gf retires but I have a feeling we'll stay right where we are.

Somewhere on Bayou Petit Caillou past Robinson Canal.

Where I'm at now. Big house right in the middle of my 300 acre farm , but close enough to a "big city" for the times I am wanting a night out or whatever.

In the mountains near the East Coast...
But first I have 6-8 years of travelling in the warm parts of the US (and Bahamas) with my younger wife the travelling nurse.

Why Bend?
It's trendy right now but getting expensive.
It's sunny, but not over bearingly hot. Decent climate, close to wilderness...

It's like living in the Southwest without the oppressive heat. Although it has a definite liberal/new age vibe, so I wonder if a lot of posters on here would actually be content living there..

It's not got the insanity of Portland or Seattle.
Friend of mine retired and moved back (he grew up there) but bought a house in Redmond which is close, but less costly and trendy

I've always wanted a beachfront place in Mexico or the Caribbean. Considering I'll be turning 60 in 2030 which, according to the big climate report released the other day, will be the time that rising seas are going to be a huge problem....yeah, may not be a smart place to invest retirement savings into oceanfront real estate.

Ireland and Vietnam are currently vying for first place in my imagination . First world charm and whiskey vs cheap tropical living and beautiful brown skinned girls.

I'd be fine living 20-30 minutes outside of a 20-50k town with a few restaurants, doctors and a hospital.
My goal too.

Near Elkmont and Shanghai along the Elk River, the only place in Limestone County with rolling hills.
I've got the land already, it's just a matter of building a house and setting everything up. Maybe within the next 5 years.
