Well most people start earning money at around 25 after college and grad school. That leaves you 15 years to save enough money to fund the next 40. It’s not realistic.

I like to travel so won’t be tied down to one place

Started doing that the past year.

Not retired but I can run my business as long as I have a phone signal and internet connection. Starting to plan my next adventure/move. Been here in Hermosa Beach for a year but in that time I have spent some time traveling.

I have been bouncing around the idea of staying in Vegas for a few months to really take it all in, Nashville just for the heck of it, Salt Lake City, and also looking at Tulum Mexico, but I'd really like to go stay in Portugal for a bit. It's consistently rated as one of the best place to live in the world and being able to take quick trips to Spain, the South of France, etc is very appealing but I am trying to stay close enough to family where it's a reasonable quick day of traveling to get back to Louisiana if I need to.

low maintenance house with about 5 acres of land

I don’t mean to pee in your Cheerios, but there is no “low maintenance” if you have acreage.

Buy a nice home on a golf course if you want low maintenance

I'd be fine living 20-30 minutes outside of a 20-50k town with a few restaurants, doctors and a hospital.

A rural hospital in a small townisn't gonna have the best specialists, etc. So you are still gonna have to travel.

I guess I just look at it from a much different perspective than others

Met a couple in Fiji a few months back that had a beautiful catamaran and that was their retirement just sailing around. They pretty much stayed in that area around Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, etc but I don't see how you could complain about that.

Of course their catamaran was a house on water and they had a captain and he and his GF was their crew so they weren't exactly roughing it.

Here in The Villages, FL. Golf, bridge, tennis, fitness centers, 3 town squares with entertainment nightly.

Lots of medical support for the aging residents; golf cart access to everything, even to Walmart.

Just a small house, without expenses. I like to travel, so I will be a hobo. Maybe a benz rv and just come back to my house to visit my kids.

Little piece of heaven called Haines AK. Outdoors heaven, one of the last real small towns with all local businesses in America. At the head of a huge Fjord with a river cutting down from the Canadian border. Land isn't too expensive, don't care if the medical facilities aren't stellar, I fugure I'd rather die in paradise than in a city just for the doctors. Bears and moose abound, whales in the harbor, glaciers in the mountains and a peaceful coexistence between man and nature.

I'll probably transfer up there with my job in a few years and start building the retirement cabin.
