1. Rented a house in Tortola for a week.
2. Stayed at a resort in Willamette Valley and hired a driver to drive us around for 4-5 days and drank a shitload of wine.
Most disappointing was Montauk.

My favorite is driving the trails and seeing the parks around Moab Utah. I would also like to go vacation at some of the places I traveled to overseas for work. Never got to visit some of the big interest sights there while I was working.

My first trip to Europe (France, Germany and Austria) when I was 28. Emerged from the underground Metro and the first thing I saw was the Arc De Triomphe..pretty awesome feeling.
Second best was when I was about 9 or 10. Dad was in the Navy Reserve, and he did his two weeks reserve duty at Pensacola Naval Air Station. Tons of stuff for kids to do- swimming, fishing, free bicyles, free movies. Kids of officers (Commander) got away with lots of stuff. Also really safe - could take a base bus anywhere and get in trouble on a daily basis.

I miss going to PCB every summer as a kid and then during spring break in HS. I haven't been in 20 years and I intend to keep it that way since everything is gone now.
What is gone besides la vela and spinnaker?

Japan.
It wasn't cheap, but we had the luxury of staying at my sister's house on the naval base in Yokosuka for free, which saved us a lot of money, and it was only an hour away from Tokyo by train.
We did spring for hotels in Kyoto and Osaka, as well as a traditional ryokan in Tokyo.
Met the Nara Deer. Did a traditonal tea ceremony. We went to the fifth station on Mt. Fuji. The roads play music!
We also rented a place on Sado Island and had the most amazing experience on an oyster farm (Sado is known for oysters) and made some lifelong friends there.
We were fortunate enough to visit twice. It is truly a magical country and I miss it.

Stayed at a B&B in a vinyard north of San Francisco. Enjoyed everything up the Pacific coast going up highway 1. Visited the redwoods. Very enjoyable trip.

NYC. Multiple times. Always a great experience. It's an easy flight. With Google maps, it's no problem to navigate. All the people were truly nice.

favorite lofty expensive vacation: Venice, Italy. Beautiful place with a weird and proud culture... every meal was the best I had ever had, laid back, could walk for hours down those winding sidestreets...felt like living in a book.
Cheap/easy vacation: Hot Springs, AR...beautiful views, easy 3 hour drive for me, walkable clean downtown...relaxing, easy, chill and I've never been bored there.
