November 1986, Germany; Nürnberg, Rothenberg ob der Tauber other spots in Bavaria.
Very clean, beautiful country. Exchange rate was 3 Marks to the Dollar. Lots of history; everything was so old.
Talking to the locals, they never believed Germany would ever be reunited. The younger Germans loved Americans, The war generation Germans did not.

How could you forget Miracle Strip?
So many of the mom and pop bars and restaurants are long gone.

Island hopping through the Grenadines...Mayreau, Union Island, Tobago Cays, Canouan, Mustique. Rented a catamaran from Moorings. Basically a floating RV. No captain or chef (my friend was the sailor).
Was able to pull spiny lobster out of the water for first three days before the season ended. Ate one dinner on Mustique...Shania and Mutt were at the table right next to us. Had other really great meals from really dirty establishments.
This was 18 years ago but it was not really that expensive. The flight was around $800 and the split for the boat and food was around $600 or $700 plus on land meals (6 day sail, 5 people).

Tough call. Ireland was awesome but the worst food ever. India was a shite hole but there is some supremely cool shite to see. Akumal before it got all touristy was amazing but you can’t really do that anymore. Probability best total experience was Italy or Greece.

Believe it or not…Smith Lake in Alabama. I don’t really like a lot of people, or sand, and cell service is very sparse. Not expensive at all.

What’s was your favorite vacation? Where did you go?
quote:Yes.
Was it expensive?

Would you recommend?
This was our icebreaker ship based out of Ushuaia, Argentina framed through an upturned iceberg along the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula.

Going to the family cabin in Northern Wisconsin. No running water, no electricity, no cell phone coverage, no people.
Just a cabin surrounded by trees, wild strawberries, blueberries, blackberries in the middle of a forest with trout streams and freshwater lakes all over the place. You cook over an open fire and use an outhouse.

Traveling all around South Africa and ending it by staying at Richard Branson’s safari lodge in sabi sands private game reserve.
About 15-20K per person.
Would absolutely recommend.

Equador
Zip Lined in the rainforest, lots to see.
Inexpensive once you got there.

My all-time favorite vacation would be the week I spent at Seaside in the mid-nineties. 30A was not on the cultural map at that point. St. Joe still slumbered, leaving its land holdings along the panhandle, including what would become Watercolor, undisturbed. Rosemary Beach was just a gleam in a developer’s eye. Grayton was still just a funky little beach town. The whole place felt magical, in a way that has been lost over the years, as the buildings, and the crowds, scaled up.
