Haven't read it, but wasn't " Heart of Darkness" the inspiration for Apocalypse Now? Bizarre, but a goiid movie.

Yes.
Apocalypse Now is a retelling of Heart of Darkness. Same story. A man of great ability in the darkest part of the jungle becomes unaccounted for. The protagonist finds him and discovers the situation is complete lunacy.

Faulkner and Joyce are two of the greatest writers in the history of the English language, but their intended audience was other writers and intellectuals, not a bunch of future oilfield dummies in 2nd period remedial lit.
It's a shame so many posters in this thread had horrible teachers who couldn't connect them with the material. Hating on Julius Caesar? We made a video project of us acting it out as a small group project- it is literally one of my fondest memories of high school.

Moby-Dick. The plot line was good but 2/3 of the book is useless.
