At the moment 4000. currently have 4850, with 2 active boys its perfect. Down the road empty nester could do 2500ish if floor plan is ideal

We have under 1200, raised one son, and the other is 18, we have no need or desire to move.

I'm in a 2500 sq ft house right now with just me

Way more than I need

I'm considering leasing it and buying a small 2 bedroom 2 bath condo

I lived with a wife and two kids in 1150 SQFT, fo3 several years, it was perfectly fine. People do not seem to realize nothing bad will happen if your kids of the same sex are required to share a room until they finish high school, it would probably be a good life experience for most of them.

My wife and myself, 700SQft.

Just me 350SQft.

Storage space isn't counted in living. We have big closets in both bedrooms, two good sized hall closets, a 15'x25' shed, and about 500sqft of covered back patio and deck. Without all that, it would be hard to live in this house.

I’m thinking about buying a bunch of land where I really want to live, putting a tiny house on it, and then renting a storage unit to put all my crap in so that I can go visit it when I am missing it and to remind myself that I really didn’t need any of it.

Lived in a 1000 sq ft townhouse for a while. My bedroom and bathroom and all living spaces were downstairs with a loft and a second bedroom and bathroom upstairs. In the three years I lived there, I might have gone upstairs 10 times. I could do 750 easily.

I don’t need 4850ft2. I simply don’t want any less at the moment. We use all 4850, I drew the house personally and factored in everything. We like to entertain, it also happens to be beneficial to both our careers. We like being the house the kids come over to so we control the environment. We don’t drive extravagant cars, wear designer clothes, or eat at top shelf restaurants. Our vice is a house that checks all our boxes. We would much prefer using disposable income on things involving our house.

Apparently many don’t have as many boxes to check as we do with regard to their primary residence. That’s fantastic. It’s just not me.

2 of us living in a 5 BR 3 full bath laundry room, 2 car garage. There are parts of the house I might go through once every 6 months.

4/2 with 2800 living. Just the wife and I. Building a 2/1 house now that is a bit over 1K. Way more then enough. We do have a couple work shops on the place for storage. Most likely rent the big house.

Yup, I could do the same size 1700-2000 house if I had a cool outdoor hangout and a decent size shed/workshop.

Can you be more specific? Been redoing houses the last few months and these 4000+ sq ft houses with 3-5 people living in them fascinate me. TIA

The soviet union set the norm at about 89 sq feet per person (8 sq meters). Probably not sufficient for the OT, but it has a "scientific" basis.

Me & wife unit (empty nest)

2,400 sq ft now in a suburban setting, that’s about as small as I’d go in that type of locale.

If we moved to an urban setting, probably could deal with a 2/2 with 1,400 sq ft.

“Comfortably” would be a 3/2 with 1,800 feet but that can double the cost.

Where are you redoing houses? What are median homes in said market?

Building codes on US say that’s 19 sq ft north of legally being a bedroom. So Russia can keep its scientific data

I would be fine with 1500 -1700. It all depends on what the layout is as well. We currently live in 2200 and have some rooms we hardly go into. Wife says we need more space for the guests that we have a few times a year
