High School: 43 minutes at Winn Dixie. Said I could start on Monday but called on Sat and wanted me there by 10am so I reluctantly showed up. I was supposed to be pushing carts and cleaning up but they put me in the freezer shuffling inventory. No jacket. Just told me I should bring one next time. Walked out and got a check in the mail the following week for less than $2.
Real life: about 2 hours at a convivence store in a bad area of town. It was all I could find and I was desperate for work. Got a few minutes on how to run register etc. and the manager left the store for a break or something. The second "customer" to enter after the manager left, stuck a gun in my face and demanded money and some cigarettes. I gave him what was in the register and he told me to lay on the floor then fired a shot into the liquor on the wall above me. Called cops and manager but he didn't answer. Cops showed up, took my statement and I left them with the manager's phone number.

In my professional career, it was 7 months. I knew day one is was not going to work but i needed health insurance for the family. I was basically interviewing the entire time i was there. Took another job and in 18 months the company was bought out and they closed the doors.

IDK 3 months, I did the probationary period of a temp-to-hire. Quit a few days after I was hired full-time because something that was actually enjoyable came up and I got offered the job in the interview. No longer with that company but 12 years later have worked my way up a decent amount in the industry.
Life woulda SUCKED if I stayed entering data for an equipment rental company.

About 9 weeks. Had switched jobs one week before Hurricane Katrina. Whole office evacuated to Dallas except me. I went to Houston initially, but then my family moved back to NOLA by late September.. Firm wanted me in Dallas, and refused to let anyone return to New Orleans or work remotely even though their NOLA office was completely fine. I toughed it out for a while but left when it became obvious they had no intention of returning to New Orleans for at least a year.

1 hour placing bets for people at a horse track in high school.
For some reason they threw me in the deep end…. I had no idea what I was doing and knew nothing about the names of all the different bets people where telling me to place.
I just got up and walked away.
Also I don’t really think I was of legal age to be in there anyway. They checked nothing.

1 day.
Was a college student working summers. My previous (fairly crappy) assembly line job showed no interest in bringing me back the next summer. So I started at McD's and was terrible at it and hated it. That night the previous employer called to ask me to come back - hell yes.

I had two other jobs before I started a company with partners. The first was eight years and the second was four years. So four years.

I called in sick (hungover) my 2nd day at a college job. I was sure they wouldn’t ask me back and assumed I’d need to find something else.
Well they were really hard up for people, called me back to finish training, and I ended up moving up the ladder there for 16 years before and after college. I wouldn’t be in my industry if not for that call back. And life would’ve taken a different path with different friends, etc.
Otherwise, about 6 months at a burger joint in high school.

3 weeks. It was my first job out of college and on my first day of work, I essentially got laid off. They moved the research lab I was going to be working at to Orange County, CA and offered me a position there for the same pay that I would have been making in Houston. I told them to pound sand.

I worked at a Subway in Huntsville for about a month when I was a junior in high school. The manager was a younger guy and a Mustang guy also, so we always BSd about cars, plus I was a regular because it was near my house. The first time he left me to close, I did a shitty job of it. He didn’t fire me, but basically left me off of the schedule.
Not long after he asked me to come back because as it turns out, teenagers are flaky and even though I wasn’t perfect, at least I showed up. I was already working at another crappy fast food place by then though.

I worked at a McDonald’s one summer. I worked 2 weeks until I realized that those idiots I worked with were losers.
A week later I went to work at a radio station.
Far better class of losers.
The only ones there that were not losers were Chuck Redden and the sales staff.
Redden hired me. He was pretty cool.

I remember him on Magic 106 in the 80s. He had the funniest bits. I and a friend of mine met him at Sonic on North 7th for some promotional. He was wearing his signature Hawaiian shirt and was missing a lot of teeth.

Got any openings?
Yes. But below me pays about half of what I do. Granted, less is expected.
It isn't something you'd expect to do well. I'll leave it at that.

Back in college I did a single shift at George’s on Highland and that was plenty. Wasn’t busy and certainly not hard, just did not like the people working there at the time.
Restaurant kitchens are a crapshoot.

I was 20 and during the summer I got a job cold calling asking for donations for something. Had a paper script to read. Got cursed at, hung up on, etc. That lasted about 2 hours....

2 weeks for a Cox contractor. Wasn't bad at first, then they started sending me to do installs deep in the Baton Rouge hoods. Noped the frick out after that.
