I had a kid no older than 18 wave a handgun in broad daylight at me off Michaud Blvd once. Not sure if it was directed to me or he was just being a little shite to traffic goers—pretty frightening to say the least.

I was told to pack up my tools and leave the Cadillac street projects at 3 pm because school busses were rolling in and we were told it was "too dangerous" for us there.

I'm going to guess 3 AM is worse.

GSRI peaked with like, 20% of murders parish wide about a decade ago, but it's just a shithole now, not a murderous shithole.

Worst thing that happened when I lived in that area was two kids getting shot as soon as they stepped off the schoolbus.

In the spring of '88 I walked alone from the Bengal on Highland back to campus (passing all the Presidents), around 2am.

Backstory -
As a HS senior I went to spring testing and stayed with my brother, got in with an ID from one of his fraternity brothers, was overserved long island iced teas by another of his brothers tending bar, tossed cookies in the bathroom, couldn't find anyone I recognized in the bar, said screw it and stumbled back to campus (I think my real brother was at a sorority event and not there to look out for me). Fortunately testing was done already.

There are probably scarier streets in LA. But that has got to be the worst/scariest in an area in the state that is predominately white.

was I pushing my luck at where I parked for the A&M game? Normally park somewhere south of Tiger Stadium. Wanted to try something different. Parked at some little store on E Roosevelt off Highland for $15 or so.
