Says the guy that has an entire thread on the Tech board on how you can flush your toilet from your smartphone while you're 1,000 miles from home.

Your BMW still has hydraulic steering? What year?

A lot of cars have electronic steering and electronic throttle nowadays. It's nothing new.
Manufacturers are gonna continue to be forced to abide by CARB restrictions. Price of production will increase, and prices will increase for basically the same technology. The ones who are better will work on turbo diesel engines and making them more efficient.
Idk why no one has thought of it yet, but there should be a city package and a highway package along with a regular one available

you gonna write a little code on the fly if your truck throws a false computer/sensor signal out?
you know, the same developers who write FAKE code in volkswagons to detect if they are hooked up to a remote computer & reply with false emisssions readings?

I guess I don't mind the electronic throttle as much, as long as the transmission offers instantaneous response it feels like the feedback is there.

I'm not fond of my my electronic throttle. Flooring it just doesn't feel as good. You used to be able to bury the pedal in the carpet now you're just slamming it into a plastic box.

Biometrics for entry and/or starting the vehicle.

frick this new shite. cars are hard enough to keep running without throwing software into to the mix
Nice Try but you'll need a pre-1989 4Runner to be completely free from computers.

oh i know that.
just like my son replaced his COMPLETELY mechanical blazer with an electronic lift pump.
it was nice to be able to run it even with completely dead alternators and feed fuel to the injectors, but in this case, the electronic lift pump makes starting that diesel beast much easier.
eta he is a zombie-apocalypse kid so keeps the old mechanical pump in the back just in case he gets hit with a EMP

Electronic steering is steering by wire.

After all, we can tear apart anything else we buy and figure out how it works, why should software be any different?

Electronic steering still uses a steering column.
Steer by wire does not use a steering column.

No offense kork but these assholes frick with the wattage and wiring of oem radios so you can't even swap out a head unit these days without major headaches. You honestly think you're going to see user friendly software on a car in our lifetime?

I almost bought a 1997 Landcruiser the other day with a little less than 200k on it. Still looking for the right one before I pull the trigger.
Love these...
