All of these add up to better reliability and longevity.

Yet incandescent light bulbs still burn out in 6 months after 100+ years of development.

I'll literally never understand how a vehicle with a higher ride height and more weight is safer than one lower to the ground.
Well, in a collision, one of these vehicles may end up underneath the other. Which would you rather be in?

Well I travel 150 to 400 miles some days. I got a 78 f150, and I'll take my 15' Denali with all the fancy stuff everyday of the week to make those drives. Active noise cancellation is a thing of beauty for long hours in a car. But hey I can turn a wrench on that 78.

But it's still 100 year old tech. Don't you think LED bulbs are an improvement over incandescent bulbs in nearly every way? Light output, energy use, longevity.

Absolutely agree. The more difficult they make it, the more inspired I am to complete the task on my own anyways.

I've changed brakes, front wheel bearing/hub assemblies, fuel pumps, ac compressors, oxygen sensors, power steering pumps, and alternators... all through watching a few videos on Youtube. Literally saved 1000's in repair costs.

exactly my point. I've used AutoZone tob diagnose and then clean my wife's o2 sensor for nothing when the dealer told me if the check engine light was on I was looking at close to $1000 to properly diagnose and replace a bad sensor.

You think the dealer would have cleaned off the sensor and reset the code for $100 for me? Hell no.

The more complex this shite gets.. The more you are going to be at their mercy.

That's my point.

I'll take the one with superior handling that avoids the accident.

I agree also, I just know that software isn't going away. It just needs to be open, not eliminated.

Greatest invention ever.

Same with my pool. Spent several hundred dollars at pool store right after buying a house with a pool and once I had time to figure out it I spend less than 30 minutes a day now and can fix virtually any problem with the water chemistry, pump, filter and PVC and handling open and closing it.

Pools are really easy to maintain and virtually all the parts, skimmer brackets, pump components, etc can be had online for like $10.

It takes more than superior handling to avoid accidents. It takes skill, attention, reflexes... all lacking among most drivers. It also takes luck, as not all accidents are avoidable if only one driver is paying attention. We have to rely on others to do their part, but we all know we can't trust others on the road.

Edit: And actually, in the hands of most drivers, a car with superior handling is just asking them to do stupid shite.

yes. And the more you drive the more likely yours will run out. You can't fix other drivers with superior handling.

Well I'm not ready to drive a numb arse van around just because everyone else is getting bigger and dumber. One day though.

I found a diamond in the rough when I bought my Jeep 4 summers ago. 2004 TJ, 4.0L, 5 speed, and it only had 32k miles on it. I just rolled over 60k a couple weeks ago, and plan on never getting rid of it. I do most of the maintenance myself except for tire rotate and balance. My wife kept begging me to buy one of the newer 4 door ones if I insisted on a Jeep. Nope, I already bought her a minivan. We didn't need two of those.

I know you're not ready, and that's fine. Just don't argue safety as a reason to prefer smaller, more responsive vehicles. The smaller the vehicle, the more likely the occupants are to die. Motorcycles handle quite well, don't they? Buses, on the other hand, have atrocious throttle response and handling, but you're about 50 times safer on a bus than in a light vehicle.

Veepeak Mini Bluetooth OBD2 OBDII Scan Tool

Hey CAD, I just saved you trips to AutoZone

I love being able to clear the check engine light on my car when you know it is some bullshite electrical sensor that doesn't affect anything.

I have an 06 4Runner with over 150k miles on it. While not as barebones as some of the older models, it still has a lot of DIY capable fixes. Forums help too

Tell that to the people who died in those Toyotas or the person who died in that Tesla. You can tell them, but they prob won't hear.

You might not get anywhere really fast, but you'll definitely get there.
