They’re 15-16 , and yes we’re involved in our son’s life .

It's stupid. Our friends get together all the time for various shite. Don't need to add a forced friendsgiving.
Ummm, I just saw all of y'all last weekend for the LSU game.

We do it several times a year without ever having a name for it.
Well no.
There was an extra table set in the den and we all sat down at a table with special Thanksgiving decorations and candles. We ate holiday type foods. We got people together we sometimes go years without seeing. So no, it wasn't at all the same as what we do year round. It was Friendsgiving.
I would host a fancy dinner party every month if my friends didn't all have 9 million other commitments, kids, live across the world, etc.

My wife and I are invited to two “friendsgivings” every year and not once has pictures emerged on FB or IG because we don’t hang out with Dusty and Kayleigh’s of the world in Denham Springs.

Wait, what? I thought this was about your grown children who were getting together with their friends of 25+ years.
Friendsgiving with teens who see each other every day is a bit different but still.. be glad your teenagers want to get together at the house and cook/eat instead of what they could be doing.
Of course they don't want y'all involved - they're teenagers! Don't take it to heart, Dad!

Probably because Thanksgiving has religious connotations and the secularists can't have that.

How someone can complain about a bunch of friends cooking and eating together is beyond me.
So because you do it in November you call it something different?
That's what I don't get. What do you call it if you have a bunch of friends over during March to eat? Friends gras?

Agreed
The concept is fine. Calling it "Friendsgiving" is stupid but that's what people call it so whatevs
It makes tons of sense for younger people who are in cities away from their families to have a fake Thanksgiving with their friends before/after doing Thanksgiving with their families (out of town). Or, alternatively, when they come into town for family Thanksgiving, to have it with their friends since people are all gathered back together in town again.
Now, 15 and 16 year olds who hang out at school everyday doing it sounds dumb as hell.

Yes. It was decorated, which I don't do in June. It had different foods for the season. Everyone dressed nice. Etc.

So why is getting together with your family and eating a meal Thanksgiving?
You people are such fun police

If you want to get all philosophical, look into 'New Sincerity', specifically David Foster Wallace's commentary on the subject. Here is a good video on the subject when it comes to television, which I believe is what this generation is mimicking.

When did this start .
I wonder this as well since I had to go to one this past Saturday. It wasn't bad and the people were nice and all but the emphasis of Friendsgiving is just odd to me.

I learned if you have to try to be cool , you fail . I stay in the shadows mostly . Happy Friendsday everyone

Man some of y’all are so miserable that you have to complain about people wanting to get together and enjoy each other’s company.
Posted on 11/26/19 at 1:24 pm to Lago Gato
most folks spend thanksgiving with their families. this is a chance to catch up with friends you may not get to see very often.

February is usually a Mardi Gras or Super Bowl themed party.
March is St. Patty’s day.
May is usually the after-Jambalaya Fest Jam Memorial Day weekend
July has Independence Day
September has labor day and the start of football season.
October has Halloween
November Friendsgiving
January has bonfires either for Christmas and/or New Years Eve.
Most years, Friendsgiving is the big event, but I think we’re skipping it this year (we had a big Halloween blowout instead). Definitely will do something big around Christmas/New Years.

We’re very fortunate that our son and his classmates have known each other for 15 years , since preschool. They are at the house probably 4 days of the week, girls and guys just hanging out . So we’ve been nominated , I guess to be the site for this years Friendsgiving dinner .
When did this start .
All his friends wanna frick your wife.

Its so women can post a bunch of pics to social media and nothing more
It's essentially the same thing as a Christmas party.
It's clear by the things the OT complains about, namely gender reveals, this, and other social events/parties, that none of you have any friends.

We call it a cook out because we’ll grill burgers or something. Do you typically cook a thanksgiving meal on random occasions throughout the year? I feel like this shouldn’t be so hard to understand.

Exactly. I don't see how you can complain about a friends' Thanksgiving, yet happily attend numerous Christmas/New Year parties. Or hell, any kind of themed party. Why is friends' Thanksgiving being picked on?
