What’s the big deal with Lafayette

I just spent a day here and it feels like a carbon copy of Alexandria with a faux Cajun French culture. Chain fast-food joints galore and nothing to really do after dark. Am I missing something or is this it?

Lafayette and Houma are two places that seem like they should have good places to eat but somehow fall short in my experience.

It’s not, it’s just you got to know a person. Some of the best food I’ve had was from family and friends in Houma. Going out to eat, however, was another thing when all they had were chains and deep fried seafood.

Mr. OReilly, I have to take a moment to raise a glass to you. It is hard work to craft 100K+ posts that each illustrate the quiet despair that it took Faulkner entire novels to evoke. Next time you're in Lafayette, go to The Cajun Table. You won't regret it. I think every recipe is from the owners' family.

Lafayette tried to distance themselves from Cajun culture.
They succeeded.
There’s almost zero Cajun language spoke other than by some really old coonasses. Their cooking skills and even sharp wit have been dulled over the the last 30 years. It’s starting to remind me of more of a mid western town than what I remembered to be SW LA. Anyway, people, places, & culture change with time.

Ill definitely give it a try. I go to Lafayette there to visit a friend of mine and every time we go there it’s chains. Today was Olive Garden.
