What's more important: winning or how you play the game?

In the era of participation trophies, which philosophy do you most align with? For argument's sake, let's consider the two to be mutually exclusive, with no overlap between the two.

Its not really a "win" unless you do it by the rules. Otherwise you aren't actually better than the other person.

Win with class, lose with dignity.

Well that's stupid.

But in this stupid scenario, its how you play the game.

Unless I'm playing my friends in bar game, then its just winning at all costs.

Then that makes it ridiculously easy: how you play the game.

If you care about winning the game, you should care about the integrity of the game.

If there's no integrity, WTF is the point? What did you "win"?

Win at all cost. No point in playing if you won’t do whatever it takes to win.

If it's 5 year old baseball... it's how you play the game.

If it's MLB... then just win, Baby!

I would rather be a trash talking a-hole and win over a good sport loser.

If it is impossible to win within the rules, you're a fool for not changing them.

There's no glory in winning if you cheated your way there. Unless the prize is a lot of money, vs feeling good about yourself. Then there's glory in a pile of cash.

If you play the game correctly, you will win so I’m going with how you play.

This completely depends on the age group.

For young kids it's how you play
For high school and up it's winning
