This is also true, lol, but they weren't back in 2018ish when all of this started.

That sucks. I know they burned through a lot of $$$ to expand in the last 10 years, but I didn't think they were anywhere near going bankrupt. Their Baton Rouge location always seems very busy. The one up in Naperville outside Chicago was always busy when the weather wasn't bitterly cold (which happens a lot there).
But I have no idea how the other locations are doing. Kind of surprised they are putting the downsized versions in towns like Lafayette (LA) or Mobile (AL) when there were larger, existing locations an hour away.
Seems like fewer, bigger locations is the right way to go with TopGolf. They must have finally realized that. And their appetite for developing new locations on very expensive real estate may have dried up a little - especially when there are alternatives nearby (Five o Fore) that acted quicker to get setup.

Top Golf was a bad idea from the start. You've got this parcel of unused, valuable land adjacent to the CBD, and you want to use a third of it for a golfing amusement? We need some shiny new office buildings in New Orleans to attract good companies. Take the land and build upward.

504 is capitalism; didnt ask for special help
Top Golf wanted government protection to prevent competition
Jaeger was blight on this city. But he left the project after he realized the fight it was going to take to open 504 with NOLA and State powers fighting.

I thought this whole thing started because Joe Jaeger swooped in and signed his DriveShack deal as a way of undercutting the Convention Center project and their deal with TopGolf? Jaeger then just left DriveShack unfinished until the 504 guys came in and bought the property and finished everything up. I wouldn't claim anyone did things the "right" way. IMO, the City of NO let politics get in the way of letting an established company like TopGolf come into the City and operate and instead settled for an inferior knockoff because they are local.
Thank you. Dude doesn’t know what’s he’s talking about. Jaeger a notorious shite bag with his properties (old mercy hospital in Midcity and building literally falling apart in CBD) had this drive shack idea before Five o Fore took over. He was very corrupt and donated a shite load of other shite bags in Nola city govt. he cried foul when top golf announced and that’s when the mess started

Not saying they did anything wrong. They just benefitted from the whole thing being mishandled by the City from the jump.

So there is more lucrative bank fraud out there available than 50mm for a driving range? Awesome. No wonder money is becoming meaningless and dying. Misallocation of fake capital is going to do us in.

We helped the developer design the foundations for the Topgolf. Then he turned around and gave the project to another sub, after promising us that we'd have first shot after bidding it. So it made me happy beyond belief that this was shitcanned.

Went to Five O Fore last week for the first and probably last time . Curious to see how long it stays in nice condition given the clientele that was there.
My family of four went on a Saturday morning and had a great time.
I was impressed with the number of people there honestly.
We only had some loaded nachos and soft drinks to snack on but they seemed like typical sports bar nachos.
I've been to Top Golf a few times and they seemed damn near identical to me.
I was happy to have a closer option. We will probably go again......in the morning.

Still hoping USL Nola isn’t dead and we get a nice outdoor stadium…but I know that won’t happen.

Weather sucks here for 6 months out of the year so don't know if even feasible but an amphitheater or some kind of outdoor music venue would be a great addition. I've been to a few in other cities and they are great venues for touring acts.

Didn't the 5-0-fore guys claim someone stole all the metal from the construction site only to have it "randomly" found in an open lot when people started actually investigating it? Guy showed up with a bobcat forklift to a construction site and stole all of the steel without anyone knowing about it and then when the video went public it just happened to be found down the road?

If they are smart they redo all of the plans and put a new arena in that area

This smells of corruption from five oh fore owners and city officials which is in a much much shittier location. They held up the permits and eventually killed it all together.
I have no dog in this hunt but this is 100% wrong.
Second, the entire convention center (public taxpayer funded entity) project is funded with public taxpayer money. All of it.
Third, neighborhood sued Convention Center and Top Golf for not following the correct process of taking/exchanging public property. This lawsuit wasn't the nail in the coffin, but it started the ball rolling.

It was found in a scrap yard about a mile away.
Someone picked it up on a Sunday and went and turned it in as scrap Monday. They found it pretty quick because you could see the metal on top of the pile from the Claiborne overpass/exit.
Not sure who was arrested, but it wasnt some sort of inside job by the current 504 owners.
